Lily crosses her arms over her chest but stays silent the whole way home.
The ride is tense, and I’m just as fucking curious as to what went down tonight, but it’s club business. If Lily wants to stay here and be a part of the club, then she needs to understand herplace. Because if she knew everything we did, she would get the fuck out of here and never look back.
We should all want that for her, but I want her back on my lap more than I want to be a decent human.
I park the SUV by the side of the body shop that doesn’t have cameras, and we all get out, going to the trunk where each of us takes at least one dog. We set the mom up in the office, and I make a note to go to the pet store first thing in the morning for all the supplies they may need while they’re here.
Axel and Tate are talking around the corner when Lily grabs the smallest one that looks more blue than gray. She holds it against her chest as she cuddles up on the shitty couch.
“You good, sweetheart?” I ask her.
“No, but I will be,” she sighs dreamily before passing out.
When Tate and Axel come back to the office and see her sleeping, there’s a moment of awe before they tell me everything that happened tonight.
“Should we just leave the body there?” Axel asks.
Tate shrugs, and I nod my head. “He’s a known criminal. There are so many people who’d have a reason to take him out. Plus, that part of the trailer park was pretty remote. With the heat coming in, he’ll rot faster if we just leave him be,” I say, and they both agree with my assessment.
“She shouldn’t have come tonight,” Axel chastises, looking pissed at the both of us.
As much as I agree with him, I can’t regret bringing her along.
“We won’t make that mistake again,” Tate growls. “Whatever it is the two of you have goin’ on with her, end it now.”
“Like fuck,” Axel seethes.
Tate’s right. I know he’s right. I just don’t care. My desire for Lily outweighs whatever good intentions he has.
“Not happening,” I say, standing my ground.
“Great, so then this whole thing is completely fucked,” Tate complains, storming off and leaving the body shop.
“Damn, didn’t know he was such a drama queen,” Axel comments, and I can’t help but laugh. It has Lily stirring on the couch, and Axel clicks his tongue. “She’s gotta get home,” he sighs.
“How you planning on doing that?”
“Her window,” he answers quickly.
“I don’t want to know how you know that,” I reply.
He shrugs, getting down on his haunches, and brushes her hair out of her face. I don’t know the Beta well, but his devotion towards Lily and the way he was able to leave fucking her for club business, tells me everything I need to know. I wouldn’t hate it if he was in my pack.
“Darlin’ you gotta wake up,” he tells her softly.
“No, go away,” she mumbles, and I can’t hide my smile.
“I’d have this big fucker over here pick you up, but it’s nearly three in the mornin’. You’re gonna have to go home through your window,” he tells her.
Her brown eyes blink open and she groans, tugging the puppy closer to her chest. “I want this one,” she states. He looks over at me like I’m going to tell her no, and I just shrug my shoulders.
“We’ll see what we can do. But can you get up? We need to get you home so the Prez doesn’t fuckin’ kill us all,” Axel tries to reason with her.
“Fine,” she grumbles before kissing the puppy’s head and placing it down with its siblings and mother.
Axel takes her hand, and I follow them outside where we quickly approach the side of the Prez’s house.
It’s a good five feet between the ground and the roof, so I grab Lily by the waist. She yelps but quickly stifles it as she clingson to the side. Axel follows suit, jumping and pulling himself up to make sure she gets home safe.
