I’m like a man unhinged as I grab the back of her head and bring her mouth to mine. Her lips are soft, but her movements aren’t. She’s just as demanding as I am while we kiss. Lily has one hand wrapped tenderly around my neck as the other bracesagainst my chest for balance. I can’t help myself as one hand slides up her thigh to her hip, and I note she doesn’t have any panties on.
“No panties?” I ask her.
“Mmm,” she mumbles back.
“You’re driving me fucking wild,” I warn her.
She smiles before leaning down and kissing me again. Has a kiss ever felt all-consuming like this? I’ve been with Omegas before and enjoyed every second of it. But with Lily, in this moment, I feel consumed. I never wanted to bite any of the other Omegas before, but with Lily, I feel feral, like I should put my mark on her immediately so my claim is clear. I pride myself on being controlled because I know if I’m not, there’s no telling what I could be capable of.
She wiggles on my lap from my words, her ass accidentally hitting the horn and making her giggle.
“Sorry,” she whispers, her hair creating a curtain on the one side of her face.
She’s biting my lower lip when we hear a loud crack. She jerks upright in my lap, and her eyes are wide when mine meet hers.
“What was that?” she asks, and I place a hand over her mouth.
She doesn’t fight it as I crack the window and listen for a sign of another gunshot or anything else. We just sit there for a few moments, but when there’s another shot, tears start to flow from Lily’s eyes, and I press my hand tighter against her face, needing for her to be quiet.
“That was two different guns,” I explain.
The first sounded more like a crack, while the second had more of a pop sound, like a handgun. Tears continue to fall down her eyes, and I contemplate getting out of the car to see what’shappening with Tate and Axel. But if I do that, I’d be leaving Lily here unprotected.
There’s nothing but silence after the two pops, and all we can do is wait. My hand drops from her mouth as I cradle her face.
“I’m sure they’re fine. They can handle themselves,” I assure her, but she shakes her head back and forth as if trying to expel the horrible what-ifs from her mind.
“We should go out there and make sure they’re okay,” she tries to reason, and then I’m mirroring her, shaking my head in disagreement.
“No, we’re staying right here. We will give them a couple of minutes. If they aren’t back soon, then I’ll go in while you’ll stay here.”
“No,” she argues, tears still running down her face.
She goes to grab the door handle and open the door, but I have no clue what the fuck is going on out there. All I know for damn sure is that I won’t let her leave this car until it’s safe. I grab her wrist, and she tugs against my hold to grab the door handle.
“We need to go make sure they’re okay.”
“Listen, you’ve got me all sorts of fucked up right now. But I will use my Alpha bark on you if for even a fucking second you think you’re getting out of this fucking car,” I warn her. She stiffens and blinks at me. “Sorry… just give them some time to get back. If they don’t come back in a few minutes I’ll go check on them,” I promise.
My hands run up and down her arms, trying to calm her when there’s a tap against the trunk, right before it opens and Axel lifts a dog into the back. The sigh of relief that leaves Lily is palpable, and I can’t help but feel the lingering fear rattling through her.
“I’m going to fucking kill them,” she mutters, glaring between the trunk and the other side of the car where Tate is standing with a handful of puppies.
I grab her chin and force her to look at me. “You want to be a part of this, to prove you can handle it?” I ask her. Her brown eyes fill with fury but she nods her head. “Then don’t go out there swinging and cursing and showing how much you were affected. If you run out there, tears streaming down your face and throwing frustrated curses at them, they won’t ever let you tag along again,” I state.
“Well, I don’t think I ever want to come along again anyway,” she sasses and tries to climb over to the passenger seat, but I don’t let her.
“What happened tonight isn’t over. We’re gonna talk about this later,” I tell her. She huffs out a breath but nods her head, and I let her climb into the seat. The guys are quick with getting the dogs loaded, and I’m grateful as they jump in the backseat so we can drive off.
“You okay, baby?” Axel asks, throwing his hand over her headrest and touching her shoulder.
“Yeah, just tired,” she deflects, taking my advice. “What are you going to do about the puppies?” she asks.
“I know a guy who helps transport animals to a rescue. I’ll give him a call,” Tate chimes in.
“Are you going to tell us what happened?” Lily asks them, trying to keep her composure, but she’s failing.
“No. Now, let’s get home,” Tate replies sharply.
