“Hell no.”
I laughed. “I like how you’re not even pretending.”
He frowned. “Why should I?”
That was a very good question.
My stomach growled, so I quickly put my laptop in my bag as Beckett opened the door.
“Let’s go,” he said once I’d packed everything up.
I felt his eyes on me as we walked down the corridor.
As we descended the stairs, I asked, “Do your brothers know about us?”
Beckett laughed. “Of course they do.”
“Oh! Well, I guess that settles it.” My face felt hot.
“Does that bother you?”
Beckett was now walking in step with me even though the staircase was fairly narrow.
“No. I’m just trying to figure out how to deal with this professionally, but I guess it’s no one’s business, is it?”
“No, it’s not. And if anyone does give you grief…”
“By ‘anyone,’ do you mean Josh, by any chance?”
“Yes. Let me know.”
I was totallynotgoing to let him know. I liked his whole knight-in-shining-armor act, but I was a big girl. I handled my own issues. If Josh had a problem with this, I’d stand my ground.
“Do you want to eat at LeBlanc-Broussard?” he asked.
“Just like that? Isn’t the waiting list a few months?”
He wiggled his eyebrows. “Not if you’re in the company of a LeBlanc.”
“Then I won’t say no.”
He grinned and guided me through a narrow corridor directly into the restaurant. Dating this man definitely had its perks, aside from his amazing abs and that cute little girl of his.
To my astonishment, we got a table right away.
“I can’t believe it,” I said as we sat down.
Beckett laughed. “You doubted my LeBlanc prowess?”
“No, not at all. You didn’t kick anyone out, right?”
“Of course not. We always keep one or two tables available just in case.”
“Just in case some family members drop by?”
“No, in case someone high-profile shows up. It’s easier to get a table for two, obviously.”
I picked up the menu, inspecting it. “I love that you have the menus on the table.”
