The demon continued to laugh to himself.

“Alright, alright. You can stop laughing now,” she snapped through gritted teeth.

“I’m not sure I’ll ever stop, honestly.”

“I can’t believe you suggested that.” Faye huffed.

“I’m just trying to help, princess,” Raxx reasoned.

“Well, I don’t need yourhelpwith that, thank you very much.”

“I wasn’t offering.”

Faye spluttered for words as her embarrassment reached new, untold heights.

“Though I could be persuaded to. Many hands make light work.”

“Raxx!” Faye scolded. “If I wasn’t tied to this bed, I would slap you.”

“Why do you think I decided to offer now? I’m not stupid, Faye.”

The princess growled with frustration, but was momentarily distracted as she felt the demon tugging at her wrist bindings.

“Come on, let’s go.”

“You can’t be serious? After all the trouble we got into last night? We could have been killed.” Faye argued.

Despite her uncertainty, she sagged with relief as Raxx released her. Faye resisted the urge to rub her sore wrists and instead pulled her blindfold free, scrubbing her face before sitting up.

“Oh.” Her eyes widened as she took in the destruction around her.

The cell’s stone walls were charred black with soot, as if they had been scorched by flames.

“What happened here?” she asked, stunned.

“We happened. Whatever we did last night,” Raxx replied.

Faye gazed down at the demon, who was crouched at the foot of the bed removing the chains from around her ankles. Unlike the last time Faye had seen him, Raxx looked well. His skin was bright once more, full of energy. Her energy. She shivered.

Sensing her gaze on him, Raxx’s black eyes flickered up to meet her own. He grinned knowingly at her and Faye scowled, feeling her blush returning.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

“Like what?”

“Like you’re thinking abouthelpingme.”

“I may be a – how did you put it? – creature of nightmare, but I’m still a man, Faye.” Raxx replied calmly.

Faye’s eyebrows quirked as she was taken aback by his direct response. What had happened last night? It couldn’t be just a restful sleep and a crust of bread that had piqued this sudden interest in her.

There was more to this than the demon was letting on.

Chapter Seventeen

Raxx felt like his body was on fire. Faye’s majick continued to course through his veins, leaving him invigorated and light-headed. He was surprised the faerie princess hadn’t commented on the sweat that was beading on his brow. The demon wiped it away and grasped her with shaking hands, whilst mentally reciting the shadow travel incantation to take them back to his room.

It appeared if he could withstand the blistering pain of touching the faerie long enough, they could share majick energy, something he had never even considered a possibility. How they had achieved this, Raxx had no idea but what hedidknow, was it had felt incredible.
