Silence enveloped the cell for a moment as Raxx took in her revelation.
“That’s impressive. It took me years to learn how to teleport.”
Faye felt her cheeks heat at the demon’s praise and she wriggled in her bindings. For the first time she was grateful for her blindfold, as she was sure she wouldn’t have known where to look.
“That at least fills in a blank,” the demon mused. “You brought us here and then we must have made some sort of connection.”
“I accidentally took your hand. I’d removed your glove to try and find a pulse earlier in the evening and then I forgot I’d taken my own gloves off and—”
“Thank you. It may have been an accident, but you saved us both.”
“I don’t feel very saved right now. I feel very much in deeper trouble than before,” Faye mumbled.
“You didn’t know what would happen when we touched, then?” Raxx asked curiously.
“How could I? Did I hurt you?” Faye replied.
“Yes.” The demon chuckled. “It was more painful than anything in living memory.”
Faye groaned, but Raxx continued.
“However, our contact somehow transferred some of your energy to me. I don’t know how or why – that’s something Tabitha will be able to help us with. You jolted enough power into me that I was able to get myself home to rest.”
“How are you feeling now?” the princess asked.
“Honestly? Better than I have in a long while, but I’m more interested in howyouare feeling.”
As if on cue, Faye yawned. “I’ve never been so exhausted in my life. Everything hurts.”
“Being tied to a bed all day certainly won’t have helped with that,” Raxx replied.
“All day? What time is it?”
“The sun has just gone down.”
“What? I’ve been asleep all day?” Faye gasped. “How can I possibly be tired still?”
“Majick is different to regular energy, sometimes sleep alone isn’t enough.”
“How do you recharge when you feel like this?” Faye asked.
“Are you hungry? Thirsty?”
“Starved, parched.” Faye nodded. There was a pause and the princess attempted to raise her head from the bed curiously. “Raxx?”
“There is something else that helps...” The demon trailed off.
“What is it? If it’ll help, I’ll do it. I can’t stand feeling this way,” Faye sighed wearily.
“A release.”
“What do you mean, like, using the bathroom?”
The demon’s laughter took her by surprise as she blushed furiously beneath her blindfold.
“I was talking sexually but whatever works, right?”
“O-oh!” The faerie spluttered. “T-that makes more sense.”
