Jaxon

The next afternoon, I walked into my youngest brother’s home and stalled. Aidan’s daughter, Cambry, made a mad dash for me, and I scooped her up before her head could do permanent damage to my nuts.

“Unca Jax!” Cambry squeaked, and I hugged her close.

“Hey, baby.”

“Oooh, quick reflexes you got there, buddy,” Kimberly retorted as she approached us. She kissed my cheek and held her hands out for Cambry, but my niece was having none of it. She huffed and buried her head in my neck.

“She’s good here, Kim,” I said.

Kimberly was married to Aidan and they had two kids now. Since Kim was loaded, they lived in an historic home on a shit ton of land where they kept horses. Not that Aidan didn’t do his part...he was a vet and the go-to Olympics equestrian trainer, which meant they were both sitting pretty when it came to money.

Kim chuckled. “Charmer.”

“Her or me?” I asked.

“Both.”

“Guilty.” I grinned, and jostled Cambry gently. “How’s my girl?”

She patted my face and gave me a toothy grin. “Mama said I could have ice cream.”

“She did?”

She bobbed her head up and down.

“After dinner,” Kimberly clarified.

Cambry wrinkled her nose but only so I could see and I forced myself not to laugh. At five years old, she was sassy as hell and I loved her for it.

“Where’s Aidan?” I asked.

“At the grill. Ace is with him,” Kim said. “Can I get you a beer?”

“Yeah, babe, that’d be great,” I said, and followed her through the kitchen.

Kim held her arms out to her daughter. “Cambry, let’s get you washed up.”

I handed my niece off to Kim and headed out to the back patio. My brothers were part of the Dogs of Fire Motorcycle Club, and although I called them Carter and Aidan, their MC brothers called them Ace and Knight.

“Uncle Jax!” Liam, Carter’s middle kid, called and made a run for me.

“Hey, bud,” I said, hugging him quickly. “You helpin’ Uncle Aidan man the grill?”

“Yeah. He even let me turn the ribs.”

“Awesome.”

“You get lost?” Carter asked, giving me a quick hug.

I chuckled. “Traffic.”

“Of the female variety?”
