She let out a quiet snort. “I’m not going to call you at night.”

“Why not?”

“Um. Because it would be wrong?”

I smiled. “You need me, you call me.”

“Will you come and kill a spider?” she asked. “Sorry, that was dumb. I shouldn’t have said that. Of course, you won’t come and kill a spider. I’m on my own for spider murder. Not even Billy will help me with arachnicide. Butchy might, but I honestly haven’t asked him.”

I forced my dick to stay down at her earnest expression. “You scared of spiders, Harmony?”

“Terrified is more accurate,” she said, immediately, then waved her hands. “Please ignore me. I feel very safe with you, and now I’m just saying things out loud that make no sense, and I’m seriously about to lose my mind. Lordy, why can’t I stop talking?”

Jesus, she was cute. And I loved that she felt safe with me. I tried not to chuckle at her rambling, but the more she talked in her quiet southern accent, the more I wanted to fuck her so hard she screamed my name.

I smiled slowly, waiting to see if she’d say anything else. When she didn’t, I said, “You need me to kill a spider, Harmony, you feel free to call me.”

She blushed again, but didn’t say anything.

“Do you need me to make copies of all of this?” I asked, tapping the folder.

“No. This is for you.”

“Okay. I’m gonna head out and see what I can find, okay? If you think of anything else, let me know.”

“Okay. Thanks, Agent Quinn.”

“Jaxon.”

She licked her lips. “Jaxon.”

I nodded, and she walked me out to the lobby where we parted ways, but I knew I was gonna find a shit ton of excuses to see her again, even if it wasn’t about finding her sister’s stalker. My phone buzzed just as I slid into my truck, and I saw my youngest brother, Aidan, was calling. “Hey, brother.

“You comin’ tomorrow?”

“Yeah, man, I’ll see you there.”

We all tried to make a Sunday night dinner rule amongst us kids. Our parents still lived several hours away, and my mother kept trying to break up every new relationship forming, so she was on a short list with Carter and Aidan. I had no dog in this fight. Not yet, anyway. Although, Harmony was the first woman to come along in a long time who piqued my interest.

I was fucked.
