“Girl, I need to get a Faction sooner rather than later. These guys are on it.” Chloe smiled.
“How do you know you’re going to be Nexus?” Zane grinned at his sister.
“Isn’t it obvious?” I winked at Zane, “This girl was made to be the center of attention.”
“We are well aware. She’s been like this since birth.” Zeke rolled his eyes but smiled affectionately at Chloe.
We heard a throat clear near our table, and I turned to see Oliver standing there. I’d seen him for the first time in the cafeteria, and I assumed from Chloe’s comments that they had a little flirtation going on.
He was a massive guy, only the slightest bit shorter than Jet. His Samoan heritage was obvious: bronze skin, dark brown hair, and gorgeous dark eyes.
“Chloe, I wondered if you’d like to go on a walk with me?” He said in a beautiful, deep voice.
“Is that what the kids are calling it these days?” Nathan laughed.
Chloe stuck her tongue out at him, “No, we’re still calling it fucking.”
Coffee sprayed out of Zeke’s mouth and all over Nathan’s shirt.
“What the hell, ginger?” Nathan scowled at him.
Jet started laughing silently at first, then his laughter grew progressively louder until the room was filled with the sound.
Everyone paused what they were doing and just stared.
“Well, my work here is done.” Chloe grinned, “I think I’ll take you up on that offer, Oliver. Reverie, give your parents my regards. We’ll catch up when you get back.”
Oliver held out his arm, and Chloe grabbed it. “We really are just going for a walk. There will be no fucking until Chloe puts aring on it.” He spoke to Zeke and Zane, then kissed Chloe on the lips when she pouted.
She gave him a sweet smile as they both turned and sashayed out of the café. They made a striking couple, and more than one eye turned in their direction in appreciation.
“I think he might be perfect for her.” Jet smiled.
I thought he might be right.
Chapter 25
Reverie
We left soon after, with Oren and Nathan teleporting all of us. I wanted to visit our farm first to see the animals and Mira. I knew the Fellat would keep them safe, but after the attack, I needed to check on them myself.
As we reached the barn, tears welled up in my eyes at the sight of the charred remains of my home. It was the only house I’d ever known. Even though the people in it mattered most, the place held countless cherished memories.
“It’s alright, baby.” Jet crooned, pulling me into his arms. “I’m going to kill them all.”
Getting accustomed to this newall-inJet would take time, but I was here for it. The venom in his voice made me shiver, in the best way.
“We’regoing to kill them all.” Nathan corrected, leaning in and kissing my cheek.
Mira came from around the corner of the barn, followed closely by a miniature donkey.
“Hello, Cub. Is everything well?”
“Yes, I just wanted to check on things before I visited my parents in the city.” I smiled, “Who is our new friend?”
“This is Alfonso. He showed up last night looking for John.”
She used one of her tentacles to pat his head.“I let him know that John would be around this evening, and he could introduce himself then.”
