Jet smiled. My bestie was at least a foot shorter than the big man, and her intimidation factor was practically nonexistent.

“That was definitely one of the deciding factors.” Jet smiled, “I would never want to experience that. Did you acquire that skill from watchingStep Brothers?”

I knew this guy belonged to me. There wasn’t a single doubt.

“Did he just say two whole sentences?” Chloe glanced at me for confirmation.

Jet rolled his eyes, “Yes,hedid.”

“He’s on a roll,” I smirked and kissed his peck. There was no world in which I could reach his cheek without a ladder. “Let’s head to Java and Jam, I’m starving.”

Jet grabbed my hand as we walked out the door. He paused to ensure that the door had shut completely.

“Aww, he does care.” Chloe fluttered her lashes.

“I take my future Nexus’s safety seriously,” Jet told her, falling into step behind Pantar.

We’d barely made it out the front door of the building when I saw Kristine and Sophie heading in our direction. I felt Jet stiffen beside me just as Nathan appeared from around the corner to stand in front of us both—Pantar at his side.

“Really? I’m so dangerous, you need to protect the giant?” Kristine tried for an innocent look. “You need to talk to someone other than Reverie. She’s turned out to be quite the liar. Jet and I were trying to have a romantic tryst when she busted in and made horrible accusations toward me.” She fluttered her lashes, “Isn’t that true, Jet?”

“Fuck you!” Jet lunged toward her.

Thankfully, Pantar prevented him from getting to her. I didn’t know what would happen if he attacked her openly without apparent provocation. Her father would probably have him removed from Emberhold.

Kristine smiled widely, “That’s what I was trying to accomplish when we were so rudely interrupted.”

Sophie laughed, but it sounded forced. Maybe there was a chink in their friendship that could be exploited.

I stepped in front of Nathan and Jet, “That’s enough. There’s no need to give this rapist bitch another moment of our time. I’ll teach her a lesson in a few days she won’t soon forget.”

“Damn right, you will.” Chloe moved to stand beside me and glared at Kristine.

“Maybe, but I doubt it. I’m way out of your league, little girl. You’d do well to rethink your challenge before it’s too late.” Kristine gave me an evil smile.

She thought we were unaware of the injections she’d been given that had unleashed her abilities. But Iknewshe was unaware of my bonds, and my abilities were natural, not the result of an injection.

“We’ll see.” I was done giving this bitch the time of day. She’d find out soon enough that I was not to be fucked with. Idoubted her intelligence because I’d thought it had already been demonstrated.

I walked up to Jet and grabbed his hand, pulling him away from the two women. Nathan and Pantar placed themselves between Kristine and Jet as we passed by, primarily for Kristine's safety. Jet’s expression was murderous, and I could actually feel him vibrating with rage.

He’d calmed down somewhat by the time we reached the café. The twins were waiting for us, but Oren hadn’t arrived yet.

Zeke pulled out my chair, “Sit. I’ve already ordered your breakfast, and it should be out soon.”

I pulled him down for a kiss, “Thank you, kind sir.”

He actually blushed before sitting beside me. Pantar shoved his way beside our table, causing the nearby students at the neighboring tables to evacuate quickly. The lady behind the counter frowned, but she wasn’t about to tell a Fellat he wasn’t welcome inside.

It wasn’t long before our doughnuts and coffee arrived, and we fell on the food like locusts. I always had a healthy appetite, but this morning it seemed bigger than usual.

“That’s because the markings you gave us yesterday took a toll on you physically. You’re not used to being depleted like normal Aurathions are after using an ability,”Oren spoke in my head.

Looking around, I spotted him sitting at a table near the door, drinking his usual cup of tea with an old book lying on the table in front of him. He winked at me and then turned his attention back to the book. That man was sneaky. I hadn’t seen him come in.

“Eat, baby.” Jet put another doughnut on my plate.

Zeke nodded with approval, then motioned for my cup to be refilled. The lady behind the counter came over immediately with a fresh pot of coffee.
