He was admiring his new mark in the mirror.
“It’s beautiful.” I couldn’t help but feel a small amount of pride at the sight, even if it wasn’t done deliberately.
Oren turned and took me into his arms. “You know that bonding with you saved my life, but I never explained how.”
Indeed, he hadn’t. Since it occurred, we’ve been racing from zero to sixty and haven’t had the opportunity to simply exist.
I yawned and turned my head, trying to cover it up. All of this was exciting, but I was drained. I could barely keep my eyes open after marking Nathan and Oren. This new ability took all of my energy. I needed to find out everything about it as soon as possible. Well, maybe in a few hours.
“My angel looks tired. Why don’t I get you something to eat, and then you can lie in my bed and nap?” Oren tugged on a pigtail. “I can explain things later when you're not about to drop from exhaustion.”
I wanted to protest, but I was just so tired. “Okay, that sounds good.”
“I made you some soup and a sandwich,” Zeke said, startling us both.
“You really can’t stand for anyone else to feed her, can you?” Oren asked, smirking.
“No one knows how she likes it but me.” Zeke grabbed my hand and led me to the bar.
“That’s what she said.” Zane joked, taking the seat beside me.
Zeke just rolled his eyes and fixed me a glass of sweet tea, clearly used to his brother’s jokes.
“Where did you get that?” Oren looked at it in distaste. “Tea is supposed to be served hot.”
“I may have to rethink your mark.” I narrowed my eyes.
He smiled indulgently, “For you, I’ll make an exception.”
“My crazy brother ran to our apartment to get it. He made sure to have a supply ready after your Pop told him it was yourfavorite beverage.” Zane stole a chip from my plate and popped it in his mouth.
Zeke growled at him, and Zane held up both hands. “I promise not to take another bite. Damn, I’m your twin, and you’re just going to let me starve to death.”
I tuned them out and looked around the room. When I didn’t see Jet, I assumed he had returned to class.
You know what they say about assuming, I thought, as Nathan and Jet walked through the door. Nathan was carrying a pizza, and Jet had a twelve-pack of beer in his arms.
“Where did you get the beer?” Zane raised a brow.
“Jolly and I blinked to a store and picked some up. With those muscles and that height, no one asked for ID.” Nathan waved a hand to showcase Jet like a model onThe Price Is Right, presenting a new car.
Jet hadn’t taken his eyes off Oren since he entered the room. I just thought he was intimidating before. The look of death in his eyes upped his badass factor by several levels.
“No need to be pissed, Jet.” Oren grinned, “I can’t let you say things that could harm Reverie, even if you think it’s for a noble cause. I believe you’re just postponing the inevitable and perhaps creating a hole you won’t escape from.”
“Storm is correct.” Nathan set the beer on the kitchen counter and handed each guy one. “My Nexi can hold a grudge, and once she gets something in her head, getting her to change her mind is a monumental task. Believe me, if not for my superior skills of persuasion, I wouldn’t be here.”
“No beer for Reverie?” Zane asked, nodding his head in my direction.
Nathan smirked, “When the choice is sweet tea or beer, my Nexi always chooses tea. Maybe there’s a good reason she hasn’t bonded with you yet.”
“Fuck off, I know the important things, like how she sounds when she cums.” Zane flipped him off.
I choked on my grilled cheese and took a large gulp of my sweet tea.
“What the hell, Zane?” I said, my eyes watering.
He walked over and hugged me. “It was the best moment of my life. Nathan may have known you longer than the rest of us, but I know who you are to me and my brother.”
