Suddenly, he raised his head and looked at me, “How did your bonding come about? I don’t think anybody ever told me.”

I sighed. I knew he was going to want an explanation. Nathan narrowed his eyes, “She couldn’t stand you, so it seems like a large leap to think in the short time I was gone, you both fell in love and completed the bond.”

“Yeah, Storm, you should explain to Nathan how you bonded his Nexi.” Zane smiled evilly.

Zeke cuffed him in the head, “Stop instigating. We have enough going on.”

Zane pouted, “I was just advocating for an open, healthy dialogue.”

“Riiight.” I flipped him off.

He smiled so big I could see his molars.

“Let’s head out to the Arena and settle this once and for all.”

I stood up and headed for the door. I knew it would come to this, and I might as well get it over with now. I knew I deserved it on some level, and Nathan, as Reverie’s only other bonded, had the right to dole out the punishment. Reverie’s safety needed to be our only focus.

Hopefully, after we resolve this, we can get back on track.

Chapter 13

Reverie

Iwoke to an empty bed and a full bladder. I got up to head to the bathroom and paused, noticing the small black feline curled up on Nathan’s pillow.

Was that Pantar?

“Yes, my Nexus, it is me. With the crazy one here, this was the only way I would fit on your bed.”He yawned, jumped from the bed, and expanded to the size of a cheetah in a weird popping and cracking of bones.

I just continued to stare at him in amazement.

“This size will make it easier to follow you through the hallways. I didn’t want to minimize my size until all of your classmates understood the threat I posed.”He yawned once more and then stretched.

“I know you told me you could do it. It’s just a little shocking when I’m used to you being the size of a rhino.” I smirked, “Maybe when you’re in your cat size, I could get you a selection of collars with bells and tie pretty ribbons on your tentacles. You’d look so precious!”

Pantar looked at me and blinked slowly.

“I think not Nexus.”

He disappeared.

I fell back on the bed laughing, but my Pantar wasn’t amused in the least bit.

Rolling over, I grabbed Nathan’s pillow and inhaled deeply. That man smelled like bad decisions and long nights. I was here for it. I got out of bed, clutching the pillow, and twirled around the room like a Disney princess. I was expecting some birds to fly in and assist me in dressing.

Nathan was back, and the world was right again.

I now had some revenge to plan for my Shitstorm. I was ready to forgive him and get on with things, but he had to be taught that I wasn’t going to put up with his bulldozing shit.

Zeke may be willing to help. Nathan was out because I didn’t want Oren killed. Zane was a no-go because I’d noticed that he and Nathan had bonded last night, so he might be tempted to tell him. Zeke was level-headed and would respect my right to plan this. He was my most patient Faction and would be perfect in this situation.

Chloe would definitely be brought in. That girl was diabolical. This would be epic with the three of us working together.

I walked over to my vanity and decided to rock some high pigtails today. I was feeling “little monster” vibes, thinking about my revenge plot.

I slipped into my black cargo pants and a snug red shirt, revealing just a hint of skin. Pulling on my black combat boots, I strapped on my ankle sheath and slid my knife in. Then swiped on some mascara and deep red lipstick.

I looked in the mirror once more. Yep, the lipstick was perfect for my inner Harley Quinn. Satisfied with my appearance, I headed into our tiny kitchen for coffee.
