That was rather rude.
Randal turned Luca and walked him back out of the kitchen and down the hallway to the dining room. It was early afternoon so Randal was a bit surprised at the trays of sandwiches, cookies, and chips sitting on a sideboard.
He directed Luca to a chair before walking over and grabbing two plates and adding a little bit to each of them. He snagged a bottle of water for himself and poured Luca some orange juice before carrying everything over to the table.
"Here," he said as he set the food and juice down. "Try and eat some of this if you can."
He took the chair next to Luca and picked up his sandwich. He opened his mouth to take a bite when a strange smell reached his nostrils. He crinkled his nose and looked around, trying to figure out where the smell was coming from. When he couldn't quite place it, he lifted his nose into the air and drew in a deep sniff.
Randal frowned in confusion when his nose led him to the sandwich in his hand. He set it down on his plate and flipped it open. He pulled off the ham and sniffed it. Nope. He did the same for the cheese. Still no. Still confused, Randal lifted the bread to his nose. One side was fine, but the other side...gross. He couldn't quite place what that smell was, but it made his stomach roll and his bear roar.
Randal tossed it down on his plate.
"Don't like ham and cheese?" Luca asked.
"No, it's—" Randal's eyes rounded when he saw Luca start to take a bite of his sandwich. He reached out and batted it away.
"Hey, I was going to eat that." Luca gave him a reproachful glare. "You said I needed to eat so I'd be ready for later."
"Something is wrong with the mayonnaise on the sandwiches."
Luca dropped his sandwich and stared at it as if it was a poisonous snake.
"Go get the alpha."
Luca jumped up and raced out of the dining room. Randal would have done it, but he needed to make sure no one else ate anything. He got up and walked over to the tray of sandwiches. He planted himself in front of the trays of food. If anyone tried to get one, they'd have to go through him first.
Chapter Thirteen
Luca raced back to where he had last seen Alpha Rob, except the man wasn't there and Luca didn't see anyone he recognized. Granted, there weren't a ton of people in the place, but Luca still didn't recognize any of them.
He stopped the first person who walked close to him. "Do you know where Alpha Rob is?"
"Uh, I'm not even sure who that is."
Luca's eyebrows shot up. "You don't know who Rob is?"
How could he not know?
"Sorry, man, I just work here."
Luca knew his jaw was hanging down to his chest as he watched the man walk away, but come on. Rob was the alpha. This was his house, his clan. How could this guy not know who he was?
Not knowing what else to do, Luca started running from room to room, looking for anyone who could take him to Alpha Rob. He stopped more than one person, but they all said the same thing. They had no idea who Rob was.
This guy seriously needed a public relations team or something. How could he lead an entire clan of people if no one knew he was the alpha? They didn't even know who he was. How did that happen?
When Luca reached a study, he found a light brown haired man sitting at a large wooden desk, looking at a laptop screen. The man jumped up as soon as Luca ran in.
"Have you seen Rob?" Luca asked. "I need to find him."
"You're that tattoo guy who runs the ink shop in town, aren't you?"
"Yes. My name is Luca."
"Henry."
"Have you seen the alpha?"
