They had both mated humans.

George chuckled. "We do."

Randal pulled Luca closer when León came running up the steps with a black bag.

"Come with me, my bear," León said. "You're going to help me."

George's eyebrows lifted, but he trailed after León and into the mansion.

"What's he doing?" Luca asked.

"He's going to sweep the mansion before we start making any plans to rescue your nana," Rob said. "I don't want Ralph finding out our plan until we implement it."

Luca stepped forward. "We have a plan?"

"No, not yet, but we will."

Randal was not reassured.

He walked beside Luca as they followed Rob, Jeb, and Harvey into the mansion. Randal had a lot of questions, but he kept them all locked behind his lips, afraid that there might actually be a listening device somewhere in the massive house.

He didn't know what the plan was, but he knew they had to keep it a secret from his father and brother. One hint that they were planning anything and Nana would be dead.

"Why don't you head to the kitchen and get something to eat while León searches the place for bugs?" Rob grimaced. "This might take a little while, but it'll give Albert and the sheriff time to get here."

Randal doubted he could eat, but he wanted to try to get something down Luca, even if it was a glass of juice. Today was going to be nerve-wracking enough without Luca getting the shakes because he hadn't eaten anything.

"I don't want to upset the alpha, but I'm not really hungry, Randal," Luca whispered.

Randal smiled when he saw Rob give him a quick look. Luca might have grown up in a shifter town, but he still hadn't gotten used to all the things shifters could do, like hear whispers.

"I know you're not hungry right now, but you can have a glass of juice. It'll make the alpha happy."

Rob rolled his eyes.

Randal wrapped an arm around Luca and led him toward the kitchen. He knew Luca was a little out of it right now because of his worry and fear, and at some point the man would come out of it and argue with him for going all protective, but that was then and this was now.

And right now, Luca needed him to be strong.

Randal would be the first to admit he wasn't the brightest bulb in the box. He'd spent too many years under his father's thumb and dodging his brother's fists. His life experience involved trying not to be seen, beaten, or forced to do something that went against his nature.

He wasn't always good at it, but he had lived this long so he figured he wasn't a dismal failure either. He had something he could offer Luca right now that he might not be able to get from anyone else. He knew fear, and he knew how to deal with it.

"A glass of juice will give you a little boost, so we'd better get it now so we're both good to go when the alpha is."

Luca nodded absently. "Yeah, okay."

That went easier than Randal had expected. Maybe he'd try and get some food in Luca as well. Couldn't hurt to try.

When they reached the kitchen, Randal and Luca stood in the doorway. Randal knew why he was just standing there. The kitchen was bustling with activity. People were moving around, going from one side of the large kitchen to the other and then back again.

Randal actually recognized most of them. There were a few who were strangers. Those from the Silver Lake Clan were easy to pick out. They had no smell. The others did, which told Randal they were either new to the clan or new to the area.

There were a couple of humans, too.

Randal waved his hand when someone walked by. "The alpha sent us in here to get something to eat. Is there any way we can get some juice?"

"There's food in the dining room," the man said before walking away.
