Ares gestured outside and Xander followed his brother out of the room.
“So, you drove?” Ares asked.
Xander laughed at the ridiculousness of it all. “Yes.”
“Make it a habit.”
“I will,” Xander agreed.
“You’re going to go tell Harper?”
“I was going to call Quinn.”
“I’ll call Walsh. You go tell Harper.”
“Ares, I don’t want to…”
“She needs to hear this from you, Xander. She needs to be read in on what happened here tonight.”
Xander stared at his younger brother, Ares’s expression was stoic.
“Okay, you’re right. I’ll go over there now.”
“Get that driving practice in.”
“Yeah. See you later. And thanks.”
“Hey, it’s what we do.” Ares clapped him on the shoulder.
Xander swallowed a lump as he pushed open the door, the cool night breeze clearing his head. He had to go see his girl.
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE - XANDER
“I’m on my way up to Logan’s door, now,” Xander told Gabe.
“Okay, boss. Everything good?”“No,” Xander said, stepping onto the elevator. “Quinn will fill you in. I’m around the corner.”
“Okay,” Gabe said.
He hated that he was going to hurt Harper with the news but he couldn’t help it.
“Hey, everything’s been quiet here,” Gabe said. “I heard you took a nap.”
Gabe’s face scrunched up and Xander waved a hand. “Don’t worry about it. You would have been on your feet in a second if you needed to be.”“Boss, you have blood on your shirt.”
“I didn’t notice” Gabe held the door open for him, and his phone buzzed. “That’s Quinn. Harper, I’m taking off. You’re in good hands. Thanks for the soup.”
Harper appeared from the hallway. His breath hitched seeing her, her hair in a messy bun, her breasts free under her cream-coloured t-shirt, the yoga pants hugging her ass.
“No worries.” Harper smiled.
Gabe waved bye, and Xander closed the door.
“Hi, Angel.” He wanted to go to her, sweep her up in his arms.
She took a few steps toward him. “Hi.” Xander tore his eyes from her, trying to stop his racing thoughts, his galloping heartbeat.
He turned, taking in the living room. “What the hell is with the stripper pole?”
