“It was here before I came.”
“It figures. He has a whole wall of...” Xander felt the corners of his mouth upturn and he couldn’t help but smile. Damn Logan and his unabashed ego
“Yeah.” Harper couldn’t help smiling. “I call it his wall of self-love.”“If only we could all love ourselves so blazingly.”
Harper glanced away from him. “Xander...”
“So you’re all moved in then?”
“I have a few things back at the house. Ares brought some stuff over for me.”
“You’ll always have a home with us, Angel. You know that.”
Harper looked down, biting her lip. Xander took a step towards her and reached out a hand to her.
“Is that blood on your shirt?” Her voice trembled. “What happened?”
“Angel, let me get this shirt off. Would you mind finding me one of Logan’s?”He took off the black diamond cufflinks, put them on the coffee table and unbuttoned his shirt. Harper stared at him for a moment, her eyes roaming over him and then she shook herself. “Yes, I’ll be right back.”
The way her body moved, with her usual fluid grace, grounded him. He was going to take care of her, Logan was going to be fine. It would be all right.
He followed her down the hall, watched as she opened the closet, and took a pale blue dress shirt down. “It might be a little big.”Xander snorted. He was six-two, but Marrock had height and breadth on him.
“Thank you.” He put on the shirt and rolled up the sleeves.
“Xander, say something, please.” She stepped in front of him and he took her hands in his.
“Sorry. Seeing you, took all my words. I’ve missed you.”
She closed her eyes.
“Tell me.” She put a hand on his chest.
He grabbed her hand, pulling it off his chest. He kissed her hand, holding it for a long moment. Turning her around, he put his palm on her back, leading her to the living room. Still holding her hand, he brought her over to the couch, sitting her down.
Then slowly, he kneeled in front of her, putting his hands on the top of her legs. She gasped.
He rubbed her arms, gently. “You were right to call me. Whatever instinct sparked that phone call, Logan can thank you for, later, when he recovers.”
“What happened?” her voice trembled.
“He’s going to be fine, Angel. The man is strong and healthy and has a whole lot of muscle to protect his stomach.” Xander put a finger on her lip, as she bit it. Tears fell from her eyes and he wanted to kiss them away. “Did you hear me?”
“He’s going to be fine.”
“Yes, keep that in mind, okay?” Xander brushed his fingers along her lips.
“Okay.”
“Edwin stabbed Logan. The blade sunk into his stomach. There was a lot of blood. Logan is at the hospital.”
She sucked in a breath. “God, Logan. He thought Ed was becoming more scrambled, Hana, what am I going to tell her?”
“There’s more, Angel. Edwin was going to keep stabbing him. Before I left, I took a gun out of my safe.”
“You? You never...”
“I did, Angel. And I used it. I stopped Ed from hurting Logan further, then called in Ares’s clean-up team. They are going to make it look like a robbery at Edwin’s house.”
