They both froze.

Riley knew he was blushing. The sudden heat in his cheeks was hard to ignore. He wanted to look at Alex to see if he was the same, but he daren’t. Instead he glanced out of the window and—“Fucking hell! Look at the snow.”

Embarrassment forgotten for now, he shot to his feet and walked over to get a better look.

Alex followed. “Wow. There’s loads.”

They must have been playing for longer than Riley realised, because everything lay blanketed in thick white snow. It looked amazing. The sky had already started to darken.

Riley nudged Alex in the side with his elbow. “We should get out there before it gets fully dark.”

Alex hummed. “Not much of a snowball fight with just two of us.”

“Scared? Pretty sure I can still take you on my own.”

Oh God, he needed to not speak ever again. Ignoring what he’d just said and hoping Alex would go along with it, Riley headed over to the coat rack. He tossed Alex’s coat to him and started to pull his own on. “Make sure you’ve got your own gloves this time. No way am I making snowballs with my bare hands.”

“Erm….”

Riley rolled his eyes and fished a spare pair out of his rucksack. “Here.”

With boots, gloves, and hats in place, Riley led the way outside. He’d got as far as the edge of the grass when a snowball hit him in the back of the head. “Hey!”

He spun around. “We haven’t—” He got another one, to the face. Alex’s laughter trailed off as he ran into the trees. “You cheating bastard!”

Another snowball fell at his feet, and Riley scooped up some snow from the ground, moulding it all into a bigger ball as he ran after Alex.

Thanks to his bright red jacket, Alex was easy to spot running from tree to tree as he tried to skirt back behind Riley.

“I don’t think so,” Riley muttered under his breath, grinning as he bent down to add one more to the cache of snowballs by his feet. His coat was black and afforded him much better cover than Alex’s did. Riley hugged the nearest tree trunk and waited for the perfect opportunity.

A snowball hit the tree next to him and Riley jumped. Maybe not that much cover, then. The next one was a little closer, and the flash of red to his left had him pulling back his arm and throwing one of his one. Alex’s yelp of surprise made him laugh out loud, and he quickly followed it up with two more. “Ow! You fucker!”

Alex’s next one hit him on the side of the head.

The laughter that followed was louder than Riley expected, and he glanced up in time to see Alex barrelling towards him.

“Oomph!” The breath whooshed from Riley’s lungs as Alex tackled him to the ground and shoved a handful of snow in his face. Riley flailed out an arm and scooped up as much as snow as he could, then pushed it down the back of Alex’s coat. Well, he tried—there wasn’t much room to manoeuvre, and most of it ended up squashed against his neck. But Alex still shivered, so mission accomplished. Riley tried to reach for more, but Alex, wise to his intentions, went to grab his wrists. They wrestled for a couple of minutes, breathing hard, until Alex finally managed to get hold of Riley’s hands and pinned them to the snowy ground above his head.

“Gotcha!” He grinned down at him, triumphant, his eyes shining with excitement.

Riley looked up at the trees, acutely aware of three things. One, he had never wanted to kiss Alex more than he did right then. Two, he was hard. And three—and probably the best of all—Alex was sitting right on top of his cock, so he had to feel how hard it was, and he hadn’t moved away.

In fact, if Riley wasn’t mistaken, that was a little twitch of Alex’s hips.

He swallowed past the lump in his throat and pushed up enough that Alex would feel him move and know it wasn’t an accident. Alex bit his lip and his eyes darkened. “Ri?”

It might be Riley’s imagination, but Alex’s voice sounded rougher than normal. “Yeah.”Shit, so does mine.

“Want to go back inside?”

Alex stared intently at him, and Riley really hoped he wasn’t reading this wrong.

“What for?” He rolled his hips, and there was no hiding the gasp that slipped from Alex’s mouth.

Alex hesitated for a second and looked away, suddenly seeming unsure.

“Hey,” Riley whispered capturing his attention again. “It’s okay. I’m not expecting anything. Just because we want to fool round a little doesn’t mean you have to be my boyfriend.” The words tasted wrong on his tongue, but he meant them at that moment. They were both horny, but that didn’t mean Alex knew what he wanted beyond getting off. Riley just wanted to feel that connection again, even if it wouldn’t lead to everything else he wanted.
