“He wants inside of you –stat,” Kenzie voiced her 0.02 cents after I showed her my new phone. “Like, he’s so ready for you that he has no chance of holding it all in. He’s just…” She mimicked – ortried, at least – a guy jerking off. She even moaned and everything. “He’s ready for a marathon, babe.”

I slowly chewed and swallowed a spoonful of my mum’s biryani before clearing my throat. “And you know all this…how?”

She waved my phone at me. “Duuuuuh.”

We were on our lunch break, and because I considered her as my best friend, I’d decided to show her Gallan’s present once we’d reached the crew locker room. But, well, Kenzie being Kenzie, she decided to be her usual inappropriate self towards my excitement.

Oh joy.

Lord bless her euphemistic soul.

I rolled my eyes and straightened my glasses. Ugh, I had to get them tightened. They kept slipping down my nose every few minutes.

“Just because he was kind enough to get me a new phone, doesn’t mean he’s trying to get me in bed, Ken. Him and I discussed it; he understands my policy of no materialism in a relationship,” I said.

“So, then what do you callthis?” She shoved the phone in my face. “What’s this? His channeling desire and affection for you? Becausethisvery much looks like material to me, Z.”

I grabbed my phone from her and shoved it in my jeans pocket. “You’re incorrigible,” I mumbled.

“Don’t use fancy words on me,” she said.

I chuckled. “Never change, Ken. Never change.”

She smirked. “Oh, I don’t intend to.”

I grinned and shook my head at her.

“So…” She turned so she could face me fully. “Have you and Gallan…you know, done anything yet?” The curious gleam in her eyes was making me uncomfortable. Just a little.

I drank some of my club soda and shook my head. “Nope. He’s being patient, unlikeyour presumptions.”

She clicked her tongue. “Maybe it has something to do with the Penis Logic.”

I tilted my head to the side. “Penis Logic?”

She waved a hand before her. “Yeah!” She took a final bite of her taco before wiping her hands with a tissue. “Thinking with the dick instead of the brain. Maybe he thinks because he’s a celebrity, he should play hard to get. Like, you know, maybe he wantsyouto make the first move.”

I looked at her in clear incredulity. “He literally bared his emotions and feelings to me last week in the trailer, Ken. If he’s playing hard to get, then I’ll say he’s pretty shitty at it.” I finished my biryani and shut its container before throwing it inside my purse. “I just…I think he’s being a gentleman. He’s giving me space to breathe.”

“To breathe?” She sipped her orange juice. “I don’t get it.”

I sighed. “He knows how overwhelmed I feel when he’s near. He sees it, too. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the fact that I get to kiss him every day now. And Gallan actually sees it; he understands how Iseehim.” I smiled at my best friend. “He…he knows I lose my ability to function when he’s close, so he gives me a chance to let things settle in. He isn’t rushing into things because he knows I need the temporary space; he knows I need time to comprehend that him and I – we’rereal, and not just an illusion.”

Kenzie looked at me with saucer-like eyes. “Wow, that was some deep shit. Super heavy-duty stuff.”

I laughed. “You’re crazy.”

She shook her head. “No, I’m telling you, that wasintense. You and Gallan – you’re like the modern-day Ross Poldark and Demelza. There’s angst between you two, there’s honesty, there’s obvious attraction, and there’s also that craving those two have for each other. It’s perfect!”

I blushed at the Poldark comparison. “I don’t know… Ross and Demelza are like a power couple, and with Gallan, everything is so new. I’m sort of worried to hope for a lot, or to hope at all.”

She placed a hand over mine and gave it a squeeze. “He’s smitten, Z; that guy is crazy about you. He’s–” She stopped midsentence when loud giggles sounded from outside the closed locker-room door.

Kenzie and I looked at each other, and like the fiends we were, we slowly walked towards the door and put our ears against it.
