“I should have known you’d be just like our sorry ass father…”

“What are you talking about?”

She made a tight fist with her other hand and knocked herself on her head. “Are the lights on in there? We have the same father. And the last fucking person who called me crazy was my mother. She’s dead now.”

Slowly, a lump had formed in the back of my throat. She went to charge for me but Chyna took that moment to trip her up.

Dani fell and the gun fired. The horrendous popping sound crammed into my ears, imprinting on my brain. A horrified scream left my throat but I acted as fast as I could and kicked the gun away.

It was a fleeting black shadow as it went skidding across the room somewhere and out of sight. Dani looked stunned turning around to look at Chyna whom I was sure she wished she’d killed.

Taking advantage of the moment, I turned to make my escape out of the pool house.

I was out of the door, my heart beating so hard that I couldn’t hear anything.

Call the cops…

Call for help. You’ve got to help Chyna.

This bitch is going to kill you.

My mind was racing like never before and then something slammed into me from behind. I knew that it was Dani and my last thoughts as we tumbled into the stinging cold water of pool was that I was going to die and she would get away with everything.

I had another sister.

She was a psychopath and she was going to kill me and put my body somewhere that no one would ever find me.

Kelton would never know that I loved him.

A sense of peace came over me, a type of warm feeling as I began to surrender to the dark.

Chapter19

Kelton

Iheard the gun go off the moment I saw Silver’s trusty Ford Explorer sitting by the pool house. After being released from the hospital moments after she’d left, I’d followed her. There was no way in hell I was letting her get away that easy.

She belonged to me now.

I had loved her nearly my entire life.

The moment I heard the pop, my heart lurched in my chest. I was a Texan. I knew the difference between gunfire and a firecracker.

As fast as my feet would carry me, I ran.

The moment I popped around the corner, I found Dani and Silver tumbling over into the pool. Everything else became a blur. They struggled in the pool, with Dani forcing all of her weight down onto Silver.

My breath hitched in my throat as I dropped my keys and cell phone behind me and I dove in to save her.

Under the water, the sting of the chlorine hitting my eyes, I swam as fast as I could to get to Silver. Dani had her hands around her neck and Silver seemed to be blacked out. Pushing the psychopath away, my arm snaked around Silver’s waist and I kicked off from the bottom of the pool pushing up to the top.

My lungs hated me.

They were screaming for air, despite the fact that I worked out nearly every day. We broke to the surface of the water.

Pushing Silver out of the water with all my might first, I followed behind her.

“Hey Sassy,” I said as calmly as I could, shaking her face.
