She was starting to look a little blue.
“Silver, come on baby,” I looked around panicked.
I started to do compressions on her chest. Tilting her head back, I placed my mouth over her and pushed air into her lungs.
Silver still wasn’t moving.
“Oh my God, Silver!” Chyna had appeared in the doorway of the pool house looking battered and worse for wear. My focus wasn’t on her but the love of my life slipping away from me as I went back to do more compressions.
She was by my side immediately. “How can I help?”
“Call for help!” I answered, pointing to my cellphone.
Silver remained lifeless as the palms of my hands pushed against her chest, the sounds of maybe her ribs cracking under my weight.
Breath baby, please….
My mind told me not to give up, that Silver was everything I’d ever wanted in life. Chyna’s mumbling on the phone was nothing but background static as I breathed into Silver’s mouth. Water was running out of my hair from my dive in the pool but I wasn’t so sure that that was the cause of my face being wet.
Silver remained lifeless and that was when I heard sloshing behind me. Turning I found Dani stumbling out of the pool.
Her face had contorted with rage as she ran towards the three of us.
“I’m going to kill…”
Pop.
Pop.
Pop.
Looking up I saw Chyna on her feet, with a gun in her hand. It clattered to the wet pavement and then I heard coughing. Dani’s wide eyes seemed to fade as she looked down at her chest and I knew she was dead.
Silver had spit up pool water and was looking around wildly.
“Hey, Sassy…!”
It wasn’t until the ambulance had arrived along with the detective, did it finally sink in that this nightmare had come to an end. I wasn’t going to let Silver out of my sight for a long time. We were sitting on the front steps of her apartment building, a blanket wrapped around her while she drank a hot cup of tea. They had tried to get her to go to the hospital but she was refusing.
“Kelton, I think Dani was my sister,” she turned and stared at me.
Chyna was off talking to the detective and getting medical treatment. No one had said it just yet but Dani had been behind a lot of carnage, not just Chyna’s kidnapping.
“She was….”
“Crazy,” Silver finished.
“Yes,” I admitted. “And Chyna…she saved our asses.”
“Gonna be hard to keep a grudge with someone who killed a person for you, while the other gave you lifesaving CPR huh?”
Chuckling, I watched as Silver rubbed her chest where I’d given her compressions. “You should go to the hospital.”
“No,” she shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Standing up, I knew I needed to depart. “I should go.”
“Wait,” she looked up at me, those big brown eyes taking me in.
