I could still feel Kelton’s mouth all over me, but the moment I stepped off the elevator, that all changed. People were crying in corners and the air just seemed extremely solemn.
Jason was speaking with someone and then he saw me.
He pointed to my office and once again, I found myself wondering if I was fired. Taking a deep breath, the warmth of the coffee cup filling my hands, I journeyed to my office.
Jason, smelling like mints, held the door open for me.
“What is going on out there?” I asked and looked at him.
He shook his head. “It’s Krista.”
“What about her?” I paused setting my purse down and taking a sip of my coffee.
Jason folded his arms and he began to appear upset.
“Jason…”
He took a deep breath, and choked back a cry. “She was found dead.”
Everything seemed to go dark at my boss’s words. Taking him in, I wondered if they’d been sleeping together. He started to cry so hard I thought I might need to call someone.
Lightly, I patted his back.
“There, there,” I murmured. “It’s going to be okay.”
He took a breath, gasping for air before crying again.
“They found her here at the bottom of the stairs, appears to have tripped and broken her neck.”
My hand immediately went to my throat as if I had invisible pearls to clutch.
“When?”
“Last night,” Jason shook his head full of sorrow.
We chatted only for a few more minutes before he exited my office. The silence was deafening and shudders racked my body as goosebumps decorated my arms. The only thing that was going to take my mind off things was celebrity gossip.
My apartment had been broken into.
And now my co-worker was dead.
I hadn’t mentioned to Jason about my apartment, but I was creeped out. Had someone been expecting me to be home last night? Did someone have a grudge against journalists?
Turning on my computer, I instantly hit the Messy Mandy Instagram and started scrolling. My phone dinged with a text.
It was Kelton.
Miss you already,it read.
Replying quickly, I typed, Gag!
Stop you know you miss this dick already.
Rolling my eyes I pulled my cup of coffee to me and took a sip. It was still warm and it forced away those goosebumps I’d been feeling.
What are you doing?I texted him back, already thinking about how good I slept in his bed and if I’d be over there tonight again.
He sent back a picture. There was a toothbrush, Dove body wash, the one that smelled like cucumbers, and a bright pink loofah.
