What’s all that? My heart was already exploding that he was picking up supplies for me. I felt special in a way I hadn’t in years. I’d had a few boyfriends but nothing serious. One guy I’d dated only wanted someone to watch movies with, and was saving himself for marriage.
Just some extra stuff for you to have here…hope you don’t mind?
No,I typed out biting my lip in the process. It’s a really lovely gesture.
No problem, Sassy.
The door to my office opened and Dani walked in. She was dressed in a black and grey power suit. Her style had changed dramatically since our first meeting. Her eyeliner was a flawless wing and her hair was in a sleek bun. She looked more like an assassin, than an assistant. She handed me a file over and I took another sip of my coffee.
“Morning,” she gave a smile.
“What’s up?”
Her smile never left her lips. “You’re a shoo-in for the job now, right?”
“Huh?”
“With Krista…unfortunately deceased,” Dani shrugged her smile never faltering. “You’re going to get the new position.”
“I guess,” I shrugged and looked down at the file I’d been handed. Krista’s blue eyes smiled back at me.
“Jason wants you to do a tribute to her, tonight. This is a list of things I compiled from her social media. Things she liked and loved, favorite vacation spots. That type of thing.”
She rattled off a few more details before turning to leave.
“Dani?” I called after her.
She paused the door already halfway open. “I don’t know what I’d do without you girl. You’re like…”
“Like a sister, I know.” she smiled before heading out.
That hadn’t exactly been my word choice I’d been going for but I shook my head. Krista’s blue eyes were starting to disturb me and I turned the file over. I needed to get my celebrity gossip dose and I returned to scrolling.
News of Krista’s death was already trending.
Her following had been huge on social media and people were starting to mourn her. I was ready for the weekend. Chyna and Paul were coming to an early friends giving and I couldn’t wait for some girl time with my girl.
Before I knew it, Dani was back in my office and we started working heavily on the Krista’s tribute. I sent Kelton a text telling him that I was going to ride home with Dani after work. He sent back the sad face emoji but I promised I’d come over the next night, he was picking up our best friends from the airport.
Chapter15
Kelton
Silver was about to drive me up the fucking wall. Sitting on the bed in my bedroom, I watched as she flexed this way and that. The black dress she’d chosen to wear tonight moved with her body.
“Babe…you look amazing,” I said walking up behind her and pressing up against her body.
She reached over onto the dresser and put a pair of gold hoops into her ears. The usual curls had been turned into a sleek ponytail.
“Stop! We’re going to be late for dinner.”
She shimmied away from me, but I caught her by hand and pulled her back. My arms wrapped around her waist. Shyly, she smiled up at me.
“Who would have thought?”
She rolled her eyes. “Certainly, not me.”
“I can’t change our past,” I pulled her mouth up ready to kiss her. “But I have a lot planned for our future. We’re gonna be set in stone.”
