Mom chuckled, “I wasn’t going to get him, and I would’ve stopped your dad if he’d considered it. The woman will probably be someone the Conners boys know and like. Dylan would’ve vetted the woman on the date. I know he loves Nathan and would never have him out with a title chaser.”
“Besides, you know I distanced myself from Cassandra long ago. Sometimes, my darling daughter, you keep the snake close enough to you so they don’t grow suspicious and bite. You just make sure they don’t bite those you love.”
Kiara said, “Mom is sly.” I knew that. I told her, “I love you, mom.” Mom chuckled, “I love you too. Now, I’m going to have some fun in this cute Christmas outfit.” I replied, “No, I didn’t hear that at all.” Mom laughed back down the link.
Landon linked me, “I appreciate your mate sending me out of the pack when shit like this goes down.” I snorted, “Baby brother, you know Dylan will always have your back. How did you know it was happening?”
Landon answered, “My friends linked me that it wasn’t fair Dylan always has me out and about, so I don’t know what’s going down, when they don’t get to leave.” I snorted, “Dylan can hardly make sure all the pups are gone.”
Landon replied, “I dunno, sis. If anyone could, it would be your mate.” I laughed, “Maybe. What are you doing?” Landon answered, “I’m in Kris’s shop helping him, so he can close up early and enjoy Thanksgiving.”
I told him, “Have fun. I’ll see you at dinner, where Nathan will probably bring the date Dylan set him up on.” Landon gasped, “NO! Are you serious? Of course you are. It’s Dylan. I will literally be so early to this dinner.” I laughed and closed the link with my little brother.
Dylan found me and we bantered back and forth. Kiara purred, “Mate is perfect.” He really was. Emmaline linked, “Literal trucks of chocolate showed up with a very fancy delivery man. We have to do something about getting Dylan to let the cold war go.” I chuckled, “Alex and I are on it.”
Emmaline snorted, “Thank god. I love the flowers though.” I replied, “Even better. We can get him to let go of the imported chocolates and keep the crazy, insane number of flowers.” Emmaline agreed, “That’s a great compromise.”
Kiara huffed, “Someone told mate about the Goblins.” I linked Emmaline, “Does Lucas know about the Goblin yet?”Emmaline answered, “Yes, but he said he hasn’t talked to Dylan yet.” Danver found out then.
I linked the man, “Do you have me lo-jacked?” Danver chuckled, “No I do not, Beta Female Lacy.” I snorted, “I think you do. You’re everywhere all the time, and it’s impressive.” Danver said, “I think Beta Dylan would enjoy hearing how you have the Goblin realm stuck in a Frost Filled Christmas."
I laughed, “You know, I think he would.” Danver replied, “Have a good day, Beta Female Lacy.” I replied in kind, “You as well, Danver.” I was going to get that man another raise. Danver always said he was paid too well by our family, but good people got paid well. That’s something my dad always taught us, and Danver was the best.
Kiara told me, “Christmas fear is an excellent way to describe what we are doing.” I replied, “Right? It just came to me. I need that on a t-shirt.” Dylan already knew that I was doing something, and he’d probably already figured out why.
Kiara chuckled, “Mate is a Beta though, he wants confirmation.” Which was something I could easily give him. Plus, he’d enjoy the notes I’d taken from his side of things. The bullhorn with me shouting at them was something I’d never have thought of. Dylan did things like that though, so I used it.
Kiara growled, “It’s fair! They tried to take him from us so they must SUFFER!” I assured her, “You know that I agree with you wholeheartedly.” Then Dylan mentioned that he’d almost died. I hated hearing those words because he was mine. No one would take what was mine from me.
We lost ourselves in each other. Afterwards, I led the discussion about the flowers, chocolates, and jewelry that threw up in our territory. Kiara purred, “Mate paid for our jewelry.” Dylan always paid for our jewelry, but on this specific day he would spend all of Lucas’s money to prove he shouldn't be named the Alpha.
I gently broached the topic of the cold war not being his fault. Dylan admitted quite a bit about it. When we got into the house, I’d get him a drink. Dylan didn’t have much Fairy blood, but sharing his sorrow should still be followed by a drink.
I actually moved when Eric yelled. Kiara warned, “Thor, Steele, Olaf, and Kobe are worried.” I snorted, “This is about Nathan’s date, really?” Kiara admitted, “Yes, not that he’s on one though. Just that they wanted to vet the woman.”
I actually rolled my eyes, telling my wolf what we both knew, “Dylan would’ve vetted her to the degree Eric wanted. Hell, it’s definitely someone Eric knows and likes.” Kiara chuckled, “This time. Next time, he’ll go with a Fairy to drive Thor insane.”
I replied, “More than likely a partial Fairy. He’d say that Eric and Nathan could have a matching pair.” Kiara chuckled in my head. Haley snapped me into an adorable outfit. I was in a deep red short dress with a high neckline, but it was backless with knee high black boots. I smiled at her and mouthed, “Thank you.”
Haley grinned at me. Her outfit was adorable too, but that wasn’t a surprise. She had on a red pencil skirt with a black halter pin up top. It was probably a bodysuit under the pencil skirt, and she’d paired it with black heels.
I linked Emmaline, “Dylan set Nathan up on a date and she’s coming to Thanksgiving.” Emmaline squealed, “REALLY?! That’s great! I told Dylan it hurt my soul a little how sad Nathan had been since I met him. Oh, god. I did this.”
I snorted, “As if my mate needs an excuse.” Emmaline conceded, “Ok, but he probably did it now because it hurt my soul.” I reasoned, “It might have factored into the decision, but Dylan is using Cassandra’s grief barometer against her, even though she’s dead. That woman never let anyone be sad for too long, or she’d make them feel bad about it.”
Emmaline snorted, “One can hide their grief, but that makes more of what I’ve felt from the Conners men make sense. Well, not the kids but Eric, Jackson, Darrin, Harold, and even Nathan himself. Seriously, Cassandra always gets worse. I’m glad we let Hexxi have free reign on that vile woman until she died.”
Kiara snickered, “I love when our sister in law gets all cunningly malicious.” It wasn’t malicious, because Cassandra deserved every single prank Hexxi pulled on her and more. I acknowledged, “It really was a great call.”
I nearly lost it when Haley actually thought Dylan poured bleach in his ears. The woman looked so damn horrified and was clearly using her healing light to make sure nothing was wrong with him. Eric put an arm around her.
I linked mom, “You were right. Eric knows the woman Dylan set Nathan up with.” Mom chuckled, “Of course they do. I wonder if I know her.” Kiara replied, “I’m going to say mom does know this woman.” Probably.
I linked Emmaline, “Your cousin still thinks Melanie is a prank?” Emmaline emphatically stated, “Melanie isn’t a prank.” I replied, “I know that and you know that, but everyone else seems intent on making her believe that it’s a prank.”
Emmaline replied, “Haley will meet Melanie eventually, then she’ll know it’s not a prank.” Kiara said, “Our Luna is so confident about that.” I snorted, “Yes, because one of the Conners boys is clearly Melanie’s mate. My bets are on Alexander.” Kiara admitted, “Me too.”
I groaned down the link, “Haley was about to start a dancing company to meet Melanie, but Eric talked her out of it.” Emmaline huffed, “Man, why? That would’ve been funny.” I admitted, “Haley made valid points about how much places run pups and parents ragged for their activities.”
