His eyes move to hers.

“I’d do anything for you, angel.”

His voice is softer than I’ve ever heard it. This feels like a moment I shouldn’t be witnessing, something private between the two of them, and I look away.

Margo hitches in a breath and goes to Marcus, throwing her arms around him.

He grunts, his arms going around her slowly.

“Be careful,” she whispers.

Marcus strokes her hair. I only see it in my peripheral vision.

I glance up at Cole. He’s watching with unreadable green eyes.

Margo slowly pulls away and Marcus looks at her a moment longer before walking out the door, ducking his head against the rain.

Margo watches him go, her bottom lip caught firmly between her teeth.

Maybe not. But I’m not going anywhere.

I made a decision to ignore that voice the first day I kissed Margo. I’m not listening to it anymore.

I make my own choices.

And I choose Margo Reyes.

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

“Time to get to work. Those black roses aren’t going to frost themselves.”

Cole groans but Gabe raises an eyebrow.

“Black roses?”

“I’ll show you.”

I spend the next hour teaching Gabe and correcting Cole. By the time they’re both frosting the way I want, every cupcake we have ready is done. Now they’re just waiting for decorations.

And I’m waiting for Marcus. Worried out of my mind.

Gabe watches me pace around the kitchen.
