Hazel: Tried it. They knocked.
I type back.
Me: Have you eaten?
Hazel: Why does everyone keep asking me that?
Ivy: Because you keep not answering.
Del: Margo, do your men have a referral program?
I turn the screen toward Cole.
He reads it and grins. “She accepting applications?”
“God, no. She’d make them fill out a shift schedule.”
I lean back against him, and he puts his arms around me. For a moment, we just stand there while I type a reply.
Then his hand brushes the pocket of my robe, and I remember what’s tucked inside.
I stop typing.
Cole chuckles. “What are you doing, princess?”
I freeze, then slip out of his arms and pull the test from my pocket, keeping it behind my back.
“Nothing.”
He narrows his eyes. “What’s that behind your back?”
He walks toward me and I back up, barely holding in a smile.
“It’s a surprise.”
“What kind of a surprise?” Marcus asks, sniffing the air as he walks in. “Is it stuffing? Because I fucking love stuffing.”
I giggle. “I’m making turkey and stuffing, but that’s not the surprise.”
Gabe’s next. “There’s a surprise?”
“It’s a Halloween treat.”
Cole frowns. “But it’s Thanksgiving.”
“But it happened around Halloween,” I say, and hold up the test.
My heart starts to race as Cole squints at it.
“Is that… a pregnancy test?”
“It’s positive,” Gabe breathes.
Marcus doesn’t say anything, but his blue eyes are bright as he looks at me.
“That’s not a treat,” Cole quips. “That’s a lifetime responsibility.”
I know.
