"Where?"
"Town. Wedding errands."
"Errands, plural?"
She shot me a look.
I smiled.
She sighed. "Yes. Plural."
"I'll drive."
Her head snapped up.
"No, you won't."
"Pretty sure I will."
"Don't you have work?"
"My long-distance girlfriend is only here for four days. I cleared my schedule."
She stared at me.
I stared back.
"You are aware we're not actually dating, right?"
"Painfully."
"Damon."
"What? I'm a method actor."
She fought a smile. I saw it trying to escape. "You don't have to do this."
"I know."
"Seriously. I can handle a few errands."
"I have no doubt."
"Then why are you insisting?"
Good question. One I wasn't prepared to answer. Because the truth was, I wanted more time with her. I wanted to hear her laugh. Watch her argue. Find out what made her smile when she wasn't trying to impress anyone. I wanted to know whether she'd been thinking about that kiss half as much as I had. And I wanted to kiss her again. Preferably somewhere without an audience.
But telling her any of that seemed like a spectacular way to scare her off.
So I gave her my best grin. "Because we agreed that if I did this, I was doing it my way."
She narrowed her eyes. "You're incredibly stubborn."
"One of my most attractive qualities."
"Debatable."
"Along with my dimples."
