Make or Break

“Life’s too short, Punc.”

“I hear that.”

I tapped out a quick text.

Behave, wild child.

Then I tucked my phone away and put a scant amount of fruit on my plate and half of a sesame seed bagel.

I wandered into the common room. With the Biloxi brothers in the mix, there were twenty-six brothers in the clubhouse - and I didn’t know how many women. Mickayla sat at a high-top table with her head resting on Gamble’s shoulder. Ivy, Nickel, and Ricochet were at the table, too.

I glanced through the room and spotted a barstool next to Tiny and Block. Church started in less than fifteen minutes, and it would be packed. I turned around and went in there to eat.

The room lapsed into silence after Volt called the meeting to order.

“Why are we meeting today? It’s early in the morning and our normal monthly meeting is like five days away,” Yak complained.

“Quiet, Yak,” Cal said.

Har, the president of the Biloxi chapter, dragged his thumb and index finger along the sides of his goatee. “I didn’t know a session of church had been scheduled. Lark said we needed to ride out early - that there was shit happening around here that concerned some of us. He didn’t elaborate.”

I stared across the table at Lark. “Are you shitting me?”

“Tundra,” Cal said in a warning voice, since I’d spoken out of turn.

“It’s fine, Cal,” Volt said, looking at me. “Tundra, you requested this session. You’ve got the floor.”

Nickel and Ricochet sat to Lark’s left. Gamble stood against the wall behind them.

What little food I’d eaten felt like a hardened pit in my gut.

I looked down the table to Volt. “This club believes in letting brothers live and let live.”

Volt nodded.

“Yeah,” Blood drawled.

“I hadn’t planned to do this with two chapters here,” I cut my eyes to Lark, then back to Volt. “But, I’m claiming a woman.”

Volt’s head turned to the side by an inch. “That doesn’t require a meeting, Tundra.”

I let my gaze slice back to Nickel and Gamble. “It does when it’s a brother’s daughter.”

“And a club employee,” Lark said.

I glared at Lark. “She doesn’t work for the club.”

“The club funded that bar,” Lark said.

“Wait. You’re claiming Mickayla,” Gamble bit out.

“Yeah.”

“What the fuck?” Nickel hissed.

“You’ve been with my daughter!” Gamble yelled.

My gaze went back to Lark. “You pleased with this shit, old man?” I asked.
