I nodded. “She is, and with any luck she’ll be headed home within the hour.”

Seth sauntered up beside Brandy. Marjorie stood next to him holding his hand.

I crouched. “Marjorie, can you give me a hug?”

She let go of Seth’s hand and came to me. I gave her a big hug and guided her to Brandy before I stood.

“Seth,” I said.

“Ron. Glad to hear everyone’s safe.”

I nodded stiffly. “Let’s take a walk.”

“Ron, you don’t need to—” Brandy started.

“Brandy, I’ll hate myself if I let this go unsaid.”

Seth crossed his arms. “She told me you didn’t care for me sending them to your mother’s house.”

I widened my eyes at him. “That’s an understatement.”

“You don’t get it,” Seth said.

“You’re right about that. It’s also suspicious.”

“How is it suspicious?” he asked, his face twisting with confusion.

I stepped closer and lowered my voice. “I shouldn’t have to spell it out, but a whole night alone—”

Seth dropped his arms. “I wouldn’t cheat on her. It’s hard enough dealing with one grown woman. Why in the hell would I add someone else?” He tipped his head at Brandy. “And if she didn’t make me pay, you and your club would.”

We didn’t do shit like that any more, but I wasn’t going to correct him.

I lifted my chin. “Get over your fear of germs. You lose your job, y’all can self-insure.”

He stared at me like I should know better.

“If that’s a hit to your manhood, get a different job that recognizes your family is more important.”

“Easy for you to say,” Seth muttered.

“The point is your kids deserve their own beds, but also their dad when they don’t feel well.”

Seth’s eyes widened. “Yeah, she drove that point home, too.”

I cut a glance at Brandy.

She had her arms crossed and a foot jutting out in an annoyed woman pose. “Which is why you didn’t need to—”

I leaned toward her. “I feel better knowing I said something.”

She sighed. “Where are you going if Mickayla is still here?”

“Cafeteria or a gift shop to get Mickayla a drink. Come on, we’ll get Marjorie a chocolate milk.”

Two minutes ago, Gamble went down to pull his rental car into the pick-up area.

While Marjorie helped the nurse push Mickayla in the wheelchair, I walked alongside Victoria. “Take her to my place, Victoria. I have two bedrooms, and y’all are welcome to stay.”
