Block stared at me for a lengthy moment. “You’re just like your mom, too damn smart.”
I smiled at him. “He looks at me the same way Dad looks at Mom.”
“He fuckin’ better,” Block said, resting a hand on my bed.
I grabbed his hand. “I love that you love me that much.”
He squeezed my fingers. “Yeah. The next time you got a problem, call me.”
“Uncle Block—”
Block let go of my hand and sat back in the chair. “No. Now that I know, you don’t have to tip-toe. I’ll let you in on how a brother thinks.” He tipped his head at Heidi. “She can’t do that.”
A rueful chuckle bubbled up from my belly. “The only brother I have a problem with now is Ryan.”
“Try to see it from his perspective.”
“I would if I thought he was doing the same thing.”
He leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. “It’s gonna work out, Mickayla.”
“Yeah. Except it feels like it’s working out like a kidney stone.”
The door opened. Dad and Mom bustled inside.
“Where’s Tundra? I can’t believe he isn’t by your side,” Mom said.
I nodded. “He went to see about my discharge. I’m surprised he’s not back by now. Are my brothers still here?”
Dad slung his arm around Mom’s shoulders and pulled her tight to his side. “Ricochet went to get your phone. Nickel said he has to help Beast with the bar.”
Volt did not mess around.
A nurse came into the room pushing a wheel chair. Tundra followed the nurse carrying Marjorie on his hip. Brandy and a man, I assumed was Seth, came into the room behind him.
The nurse said something about me getting discharged and changing out of my hospital gown, but I was hyper-focused on what Tundra said to Block in a low voice.
“Are we good?”
“Wish I’d have hit you twice, but yeah,” Block said in an equally low voice.
I shot Block an outraged look. “Twice? It’s bad enough you hit him once.”
“Wild child, I told you I had to pay,” Tundra said.
I tried not to glare at him since Marjorie was right there. “It’s ridiculous.”
Dad gave me a reproachful look. “Wait until you have a girl.”

In the Middle
Tundra
After I spoke to a nurse about Mickayla’s discharge, I headed to the cafeteria to get Mickayla her favorite energy drink for the ride home. In the corridor, Brandy rushed toward me.
“Is Mickayla all right?” she asked.
