“Yeah, but we’ve known each other for over two years.”
“That sounds like it could be a good story.”
“It’s not that interesting. He’s my boss as well.”
Okay, what was going on with his mouth today. He had just met Dante.
“That’s definitely an interesting story,” he said, leaning back.
Zeb laughed and then shrugged. He didn’t have anywhere else to be until Mason met him later. Zeb shared the story of how he and Mason got to this point. Well, not all of it. Some things were still private.
Zeb had been chatting to Dante for twenty minutes when Zeb saw a looming shadow over the table. He looked up and Mason was there, glaring. He reminded Zeb of the grumpy chef he’d first met. It would be amusing if he didn’t look so pissed.
Mason’s eyes flicked from Zeb to Dante, who was smiling.
“Is this the boyfriend you told me about, Zeb? He looks like he wants to punch me.”
Mason looked at Zeb and gave a brief smile before glaring back at Dante. Zeb was struggling not to laugh. Dante was no threat to him. Yes, he was hot as fuck, but Zeb loved Mason. Seeing Mason looking jealous could have brought back terrible memories, but it did the opposite; it made him feel safe.
“I thought you had a call with the restaurant?” asked Zeb.
“I got a message from Alison.”
Zeb snorted. She was meddling. “What did it say?”
Mason showed him the message.
Alison: Just saw your lovely boyfriend talking to Dante in the café. It’s a shame you have to work!
Zeb couldn’t hold it in any longer and cracked up laughing. Mason realized Alison had played him, and his frown softened. He smiled, but it was only for Zeb. Dante stood up and took out a business card, which he slid across to Zeb.
“If you change your mind, call me. I’d love to be your first.”
There was a purr in his voice. Mason looked as if he were going to explode. Dante chuckled as he walked away. Zeb couldn’t help but laugh again.
“What did he mean by that?” asked Mason, still glaring.
“He was talking about a tattoo. I’ve been thinking about getting one.”
“Oh.” He looked embarrassed; it was cute.
“Get yourself a drink. We could have lunch here?”
“I was going to make the chicken club. I made that lime mayo you like.”
“When?”
“I was making it when I was on the call with the events team.”
“Didn’t that disturb the meeting?”
“I told them it was for you and they didn’t complain.”
“You told people at work about us?”
“Why wouldn’t I? Did I do something wrong?”
“No. You’re being very sweet.”
