“He’s good at fucking, too. The man has many skills.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that you were stalking this guy?”
I nearly took Boone’s bait before sighing and texting, “I was ashamed of my soft, womanly heart.”
“I want you to get back home where I can berate you for lying.”
“I’m working on it. Mom is very upset. Make sure to hug her.”
After I finished texting Boone, I rested my head against York’s chest.
“Is your ass cold?” I whispered.
“Yes.”
“Can I meet your dog?”
“Yes.”
“Will you kiss me?”
York gently leaned me to the side to allow our lips to meet. Breathing him in, I absorbed his quiet strength and felt rejuvenated.
After he returned to scanning the darkness through his scope, I whispered, “My mom doesn’t normally cry.”
“Mine does. She’s very delicate and easily upset. You’ll need to be nice when you meet her.”
Tilting back my head, I kissed his throat. “I can be nice. Do you think she’ll like me?”
“I don’t know. She thinks I’m gay.”
“Didn’t you date when you were young?”
“Not much. I was into sports. The girls I liked weren’t into jocks. The girls who liked me seemed dumb.”
“What kind of girls did you like?”
“Bad girls,” York said, quietly chuckling. “The Goth girls and stoner chicks.”
“Will your mom be happy to learn you aren’t gay?”
“No. She thinks having a gay son makes her cool in her retirement facility.”
“You mean like a nursing home?”
“She’s eighty and prone to falls. The place she’s at is expensive as fuck. All her friends come from rich families. She tells people that I’m her gay businessman son.”
Grinning, I sighed. “Maybe I’ll tell her that I’m a dude. How good is her eyesight?”
“Not great. If we visit her in the evening when she takes off her glasses, we might be able to pull it off.”
Our quiet amusement was cut short by the sound of slamming car doors. York whispered in my ear to text Clint to ask their location. My president replied they were thirty minutes away.
A gut-wrenching howl filled the night. I assumed the arriving family members had found their dead sons.
“I need to move,” York said and scooted back enough to slide his leg around me. “Stay low and quiet.”
“Don’t go.”
