I turn slowly.
Coach Williams stands behind me. Lion Shifters apparently take Halloween as an opportunity to wear even fewer clothes than usual.
His costume consists of some sort of gladiator getup involving leather, metal, and an unnecessary amount of chest.
“Coach Williams.”
His gaze travels over me. Slowly.
I don't like it.
Not the way I liked Grimm looking at me.
Grimm's attention made me feel beautiful. This makes me feel inspected.
“Look at you, Maggie May.”
There goes my good mood.
“My name is Aggie.”
His mouth tightens.
“I know your name.”
“Then use it.”
Look at me go.
Seriously.
Old Aggie would already be inventing an emergency. New Aggie is tired of this shit.
“It’s time we stop this silly façade. You’re single. I’m single. Together, we make sense. Now, come dance with me.”
“No, thank you.”
I turn away.
His hand closes around my arm.
Hard.
I freeze. For one terrible second, that old instinct hits.
Don't make a scene. Don't upset him. Laugh. Make an excuse. Get away without making him angry.
Not tonight.
Fuck that.
I turn back.
“Let go of me.”
Coach smiles.
“Come on, Maggie. It's one dance.”
