“Trevor,” she answered coldly.
I headed into the vestibule toward the stairs but a hand curled around my arm to stop me. I turned to see Caitlyn standing there, staring up at me, the same nervous look on her face that Andy sometimes wore on his.
“Yes?” I asked her, keeping my tone even as I raised an eyebrow.
“Be careful with him,” she said softly. “He doesn’t know what he’s doing.”
I stared at her, my heart hammering in my chest. Had he told her what had happened? I knew they were close, they’d always been close. Probably because they were only a year apart. But it seemed weird that he’d talk with his sister about his sex life.
“And obviously neither do you,” she continued, huffing out a breath. “Just…try not to hurt each other, okay?”
“I have no intention of ever hurting him again,” I promised her.
And that was the truth. I knew I’d done enough damage over the years. And while she was right, I had no idea what we were doing, I suddenly wanted her to understand that I wasn’t just fucking around with him.
“I guess that will have to do,” she said finally. “I’m crashing at a friend’s place tonight.”
She turned and headed out the door again before I could ask her why I would possibly need to know that. And it wasn’t until I was headed up the stairs that it hit me.
She was telling me that Andy would have their apartment to himself that night.
Did she want us to…
No.
No way.
She was not encouraging me to sleep with her brother, the future priest.
Was she?
Not that it mattered. Because we weren’t going to sleep together. I didn’t even think we were going to do hand stuff again.
Christ…could I be any more pathetic?
Chapter Thirteen
~Andy~
“Hey,” I said slowly, suddenly nervous about telling Caitlyn my plans for the evening. I hadn’t told her what had happened between him and me, and I had no plans to ever tell her. “Trevor is going to come over in a little while to study.”
“He’s coming here?” Caitlyn raised an eyebrow at me, her lips quirking into a wide smile. God…did she know? No. She couldn’t. “Like…in your bedroom?”
Yeah…probably a bad idea. He still hadn’t brought up what had happened between us the other day, and I was still fucking grateful for it. But being alone in my room with him seemed like it would be tempting fate.
“We’re going to read,” I said firmly, as much for her benefit as for mine. “Don’t be weird while he’s here, please.”
“Weird is my default mode,” she reminded me. “Maybe I should go out, give you two some privacy.”
“We don’t need privacy,” I insisted.
Would it be weird if I begged her to stay? It might tip her off if I acted like I needed a chaperone.
“Still.” She stood up and slid her shoes on. “I think I’ll just head out. Find some trouble to get into or something.” She slung her purse over her shoulder and headed for the door. “Have fun.”
“Fuck off,” I said, waving as she walked out. God, I hoped she didn’t notice how relieved I was that she was leaving.
What the fuck was wrong with me? How could I simultaneously want to be alone with him but desperately want someone else to be around?
