Caspian: The Not So Friendly Ghost

Yonas kept backing away from me, clearly trying to make sense of how I had gotten into the room without him hearing a door open or seeing me.
“But how… how do you know about that? Were you in the closet or something?”
I stepped closer. “Nah, nigga. I was standing right beside yo’ horny ass.”
His face twisted in horror. “S-Standing beside me?”
I let him stare at me for a second before a smile pulled at my mouth. “Let me let you in on a lil’ secret. What can stand inches away from you, hear every breath you take, watch you do every nasty-ass thing you think you doing in private and still have you convinced you’re completely alone?”
His brows pulled together. “What you getting at?”
I sighed. “It means you should probably stop assuming an empty room means you’re by yourself. But damn, nigga, you suck at riddles too?”
For his ass to hold the kind of position he did at that company, I expected him to be a little quicker on the uptake. Clearly, whatever education and business sense got him that far didn’t apply when common fucking sense was required.
I could’ve kept dropping hints, but we would’ve been standing there all night at the rate he was going.
So, instead of wasting any more time, I lifted off the floor.
Not high.
I didn’t need to touch the damn ceiling.
A few inches was more than enough.
Yonas’s eyes dropped to my feet, and the second he saw the empty space between my shoes and the floor, a scream ripped out of him as he stumbled backward.
“What the fuck?! How did you do that?!”
I sighed. “Damn, nigga. What you need me to do to prove I’m a ghost? Float through the ceiling? Make my head spin around? Start throwing furniture? Write it in the bathroom mirror?” I paused. “Matter fact, scratch that last one. I already tried that shit twice, and yo’ ass blamed it on an alarm clock and work stress. Clearly, written communication ain’t your strong suit.”
His eyes damn near came out of his skull. “G-Ghost?! You’re dead?”
“Congratulations, Sherlock.” I immediately brought a finger to my lips. “And keep your damn voice down. My family is asleep.”
Yonas stared at me, breathing hard, and somehow the fact that I had just asked him to respect quiet hours while floating in front of him seemed to confuse him even more.
I lowered myself back to the floor.
He kept staring at my feet, then something finally clicked. “So that was you in the bathroom?”
I looked at him like he had just asked whether water was wet.
Out of everything this nigga had just learned, that was what his brain decided to circle back to?
“Nah, it was the damn housekeeper haunting you on her lunch break.” I paused. “Yeah, it was me, nigga. So nah, you ain’t just in dire need of some sleep.” I motioned toward the room. “The shower and the clothes was my doing too. If your shit start folding itself and damn near packing its own suitcase, take the fucking hint. And speaking of that bathroom… nigga, if a bathroom timer can spell get the fuck out, maybe listen to the bitch next time.”
Yonas backed away so fast his shoulders hit the wall. “I… I can go!”
I laughed. “Oh, now you wanna leave? Shid… that’s what I’ve been trying to get yo’ ass to do all day.”
“Look, man! I… I didn’t know you was here… especially like this! Just let me get my bags!”
“Nah.”
His eyebrows climbed. “No?”
“That’s what I said.”
