Caspian: The Not So Friendly Ghost

by Alecia J.

I felt satisfied in a way I hadn’t felt in a very long time, and when I shifted beneath the covers, the familiar soreness between my legs made me freeze.

I sat straight up. “No.”

My attention snapped to the empty side of the bed, then down at myself before returning to the pillow beside me.

There was an indentation in it.

My heart started pounding. “No. No, no, no.”

I reached over and ran my hand across the sheets as if they were somehow going to explain what the hell had happened.

There was nothing there.

No Caspian.

No evidence that anybody had been in this room with me, just the same bed I had climbed into alone the night before… but I knew what I felt.

I knew that man’s hands. I knew his kisses, his voice, the weight of his body against mine, and the exact way he touched me.

A dream had no business remembering Caspian that damn well.

I pressed both palms against my face. “It was a dream.”

It had to be.

Right?

Then why the hell did my body feel like I had actually spent the night with him?

I slowly lowered my hands and stared ahead, trying to come up with one reasonable explanation that didn’t make me sound completely out of my damn mind.

Nothing came.

“I gotta tell Willow.”

I pushed the comforter off and swung my legs over the side of the bed, only to suck in a breath the second my feet hit the floor.

“Damn.”

My thighs felt heavy, and there was a deep, familiar soreness between my legs that made me stand there for a second with one hand braced against the mattress.

That was not helping my dream theory.

I straightened slowly and took a few careful steps toward the bathroom, immediately noticing the way my body protested the movement… not enough to hurt, but enough to make me very aware of how long it had been since I’d felt like this.

I stopped in the middle of the room and looked back at the bed.

“Oh, hell no.”

Because dreams did not usually have aftereffects… at least mine didn’t.

I grabbed my robe from the chair near the dresser and slipped it on, tying it around my waist before heading for the door. By the time I stepped into the hallway, I was walking a little slower than usual, trying not to overthink every ache and twinge.

Of course, that only made me think about it more.

My mind kept replaying flashes.

Caspian’s mouth on mine.
