He thrust deeper, and I cried out.

“That’s it. Let me hear you.”

I wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him closer. “Harder.”

He groaned. “You sure?”

“Yes.”

He gave me what I asked for, his hips snapping against mine, and I felt myself climbing again.

“Caspian, I’m—”

“I know. I feel you.”

He reached between us and rubbed my clit, and that was it. I came again, harder that time, my body clenching around him.

“Don't leave me again,” I whispered.

“I'm not going anywhere.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

I closed my eyes, feeling safer than I had in years. And as I drifted off, I felt his arms tighten around me, like he was afraid I might disappear instead.

My eyes flew open, and I found myself staring at the ceiling.

Sunlight filtered through the curtains, spilling across the bedroom, and everything around me was too damn quiet.

I turned my head toward the other side of the bed.

Empty.

Of course it was.

I closed my eyes again and groaned. “Fuck.”

I had been dreaming… a really, really good dream. The kind that made waking up feel like some cruel form of punishment.

I rolled onto my back and pulled the comforter higher, already wishing I could close my eyes and fall right back into it. Then I frowned.

Wait a damn minute.

My body felt different… relaxed and heavy, like every ounce of tension had been worked out of me.
