“Oh, no, thank you.” He smiles. “It’s not often I get to meet a beautiful woman who’s also funny.”
I blush at his comment and make my way out to join my friends.
“You are awesome,” Izzy says, grinning at me. “I didn’t know you were so funny.”
“What do you mean, you didn’t know I was so funny? You live with me.”
“I know, but you could be a professional comedian. You’re way funnier than Chelsea Handler.”
“Thank you,” I say. I take a seat next to Brett.
“I told you that you were going to kill it,” he says in a low voice.
“Well, thank you for motivating me to do my best.”
“You’re welcome. So … you think you’ll do it again?”
“I think so. Also, Marcus, the host?”
“Yeah?” he asks.
“He asked me out to lunch.” I look at Brett to see if his eyes narrow or if he looks upset.
Instead, he stares at me, not missing a beat as he asks, “Oh, is he a nice guy?”
I’m annoyed by his question. “Yeah, he seems really nice.”
“Then you should go for it.” He grins. “I guess that’s another point for me.”
I stare at him in surprise. “Wait, what?”
“I mean, if it wasn’t for me encouraging you to be part of this comedy show, you wouldn’t be here, so I guess I helped you get a date.”
“I see.”
“I mean, you want a nice guy, right?”
“Yeah, I do. I want a really nice guy.”
“Then you should go to lunch and see how it goes.”
“Yeah, I guess I’ll do that.”
“Just save this weekend for me, my parents, and my grandparents, if you don’t mind.”
“Okay, so we’re still on with that then?”
He nods. “If you’re still up for it.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“My grandparents are old-fashioned, so we’ll likely have separate bedrooms. So, that will be okay.”
“Oh good. I’d hate to have to share a bedroom with you.” I shudder.
“Of course you would.” He winks at me.
“Whatever, Brett.”
