"Apparently pronto is an emergency code."

She puts one hand on the counter. "Oh, no."

"And Jack came?"

"Jack came."

"What did he say?"

"That Javier Martinez grows everything at the stand."

Her shoulders start shaking again.

"I'm glad my humiliation is bringing you so much joy."

"I'm sorry."

"You're not."

"No."

I pick up my latte.

"And then he called me Your Highness."

Betty goes completely still. I point at her.

"Don't you dare."

She looks down.

"Betty."

"I'm not laughing."

"You're about to."

"I'm being very supportive."

"Your face is turning red."

She loses the battle. I grab my bag.

"I'm leaving."
