‘I know things about you too,’ Sienna conceded. ‘But… We still don’t really know…’
‘If we work?’
Sienna nodded.
‘If it makes you feel any better, I’m nervous too,’ Robin said. Her arm was going dead under Sienna’s head, but she didn’t want to move it.
‘Why would you be nervous about me? I’m totally boring. Very few surprises here.’
‘You just declared your love for me on a live-streaming video podcast that will be heard and watched around the world,’ Robin said flatly.
Sienna’s eyes popped. ‘Good point. I am a lunatic.’
Robin cleared her throat. It sounded loud in the quiet room. ‘You’re nice.’
Sienna frowned. ‘I’m not nice. I’m incredibly sarcastic and judgmental.’
‘No, you’re... proper,’ Robin said, struggling over the word. ‘You’re a good person. I could always tell that about you.’
‘Even when I was lying my arse off about us kissing?’
‘You couldn’t keep it up, though,’ Robin said. ‘Because it’s not your nature.’
Sienna gave her an examining look. ‘You said that like it was a compliment. But it kind of sounded like a problem.’
Robin smiled sadly. ‘Yeah. I guess I was just thinking… Everyone I’ve ever been involved with has been a shit. I don’t know if… I don’t know if I’ll know what to do with someone like you.’
Sienna was quiet for a long moment. Then she found Robin’s hand with hers.
‘And I’m terrified of waking up in three weeks and realising we’re wrong for each other,’ Sienna admitted.
Robin laughed easily. ‘So, we’re both frightened of each other?’
‘Pretty much. Is that a good foundation for a relationship?’
‘I wouldn’t know,’ Robin admitted.
‘Me neither,’ Sienna said.
‘Some dating experts we are,’ Robin muttered.
Robin tugged her hand free to wrap her arm over Sienna’s waist, hauling her an inch closer. ‘So we try it. We find out. And if you turn out to be a serial killer, I’ll break up with you,’ she said as lightly as she could manage. But none of this felt light. It felt life or death.
‘What if you just lose interest?’ Sienna asked nervously.
Robin was stunned at the very suggestion. ‘I’m stupid about you, Sienna. I have been since I held your hand in front of that fire, if you want to know the truth. But what if you lose interest in me?’
‘I couldn’t if I tried,’ Sienna said with a sigh. ‘You’re the most captivating person I’ve ever known.’
‘Even when I’m pissing you off?’
‘Maybe especially then. I just have this crazy need to be around you. I don’t know what it is. I guess you’d say it’s our spark? And maybe you’d be right. Maybe I never understood what that meant because I’ve never felt it quite like I do with you.’
‘Or maybe we fit together in the right way?’ Robin countered. ‘You always talk about compatibility. Maybe we have that. In our own bonkers way.’
Sienna smiled, cheered. ‘Maybe we do.’
Robin didn’t really know what it was about Sienna that drew her in and maybe never would. But whatever force it was—spark, compatibility—it was pulling hard.
