She laughs. “Good for Lawson. And good for you. And a surprise to no one else.”
I reach out and smack her knee. “You and Everly have always made it sound like men generally suck in bed. Like they’re selfish and don’t know what they’re doing and that most men are insulted by the suggestion that they might need a little help.”
She’s nodding, but frowning now. “I’m sure I have given you that impression, and that is fully based upon my ex-husband, who is one person. Who is, as you know, a huge dickhead.”
Everly enters the office just then. “Ah, man. Why are we talking about Stephen the Dickhead? I hate that guy. I want to talk about the flowers I saw you carrying in here,” she says to Andi.
“You want to talk about the milkshakes you saw me carrying,” Andi says.
“That too,” Everly nods. “I’m starving. But those flowers are gorgeous. Is it Alex or Declan? And why are they sending flowers?” Her eyes widen and she looks at Nora and Astrid. “Who’s pregnant?”
Nora and Astrid both throw up their hands.
“Not me!”
“They’re not from Alex!”
“Everly thinks men suck too,” I say, pointing at her.
Everly doesn’t even blink as she reaches for a milkshake cup. “I think one man sucks.”
“Do you think he sucks because he can’t find the clit?” Andi asks.
Everly chokes on her mouthful of ice cream, but shakes her head. “Uh, no. Not that.” She sighs. “Definitely not that.”
“Do you think someone besides Dane sucks?” I ask.
“Well, widely, in general, men kind of suck. But when I think of specific men I can’t stand, it’s Dane. Just Dane.”
“So…” I look around. Is everyone else following this? “Dane Delaune can definitely find the clit. And you know this. For sure?”
She pulls on the straw. “Yeah. The bastard.”
“You and Dane?” Nora asks.
Thank God someone else is as shocked as I am.
“Yes. And that’s all I’m going to say about it,” Everly says firmly. “I am here to find out why Andi was walking down Main Street carrying a huge bouquet of flowers. Bev told me and three other people out in front of Perks and Rec that you came in and bought two dozen.”
Andi grins at me. “And this is why Lawson couldn’t order the flowers or bring them over himself.”
Oh.
That makes sense.
There’s no way that Lawson could call Beverly at the flower shop, place an order for me, and have it not spread around town.
“He knew he couldn’t even send milkshakes over to you specifically. He thought it would even be a little weird to send them over to all of us from him. Bruce would definitely ask him why.”
“So he asked you to bring them?” I ask.
Andi nods, smiling. “I think it’s sweet. He had to go to extra effort to get these to you.”
“That’s Lawson,” I murmur, lifting a hand and touching one of the velvety petals.
My phone pings with a message, and I pick it up. The message is from Lawson.
Been thinking of you nonstop. Hope you can keep the flowers at the office and Beckett won’t notice. Think of me whenever you look at them.
