“Hey, yeah. Two rooms for tonight,” Calvin explains.

“Sure.” She types on her computer and then pulls out a key and a map. “Room 120. Let me show you where that—”

“I’m sorry,” I interrupt. “He said two rooms. We were just here earlier, but would like to check back in.”

After a few questions and a few swipes of her keyboard, her smile falters. “I’m sorry, but we only have the one room left.”

“Oh.” My stomach drops. One room.

“Are you sure?” Cal turns to me with a raised eyebrow.

“Yeah, unless you aren’t,” I hurry to say.

“No, I’m okay.” He laces his fingers behind his head.

“Okay.” We agree—one room. Two people. It’ll be fine. He’ll have a bed, and I’ll have mine.

It won’t be weird sharing a bedroom with a man for the first time in forever, right?

Instead of fixating on the thought for too long, I grab our keys and then our bags from behind the counter and hurry down the hall to our room. Okay, I’m ahead of him by a few steps as he trails behind me.

He catches up as I swipe the key, push the door open, and hold it for him.

I step into the room, and my eyes focus on its main feature.

The bed.

The one bed.

The one queen bed.

My stomach drops.

Shit.

Deep breaths. In and out.

I exhale and try to find my balance.

The bed is small, but the situation could be worse. A lot worse.

At least I’m here with Calvin.

Actually, the only person I would want to be in this situation with is…him.

I trust him; he may be the only man I actually trust. Well, besides my brother, but I definitely don’t want to talk or even think about my baby bro right now.

“Hey, man.” I turn to see Calvin’s phone glued to his ear. “What are you doing right now?” There’s a slight pause. “Oh yeah. Sounds good. Okay, well, I’ll catch you later.”

Before I can ask, Calvin places another call and is on the phone again and again.

Three quick phone conversations later, the next one goes a little differently. “Yeah. Hey, so you just finished golfing in Falmouth? Do you want to drive fifteen minutes farther and pick me up? Yeah. I’m with Sebastian’s sister.”

Sebastian’s sister.

Ouch.

“Yeah. Great! Text me when you’re here.”
