“You’re one of the best people I know too,” I admit out loud to him, probably for the first time ever. We don’t usually do this sappy shit, but we are getting older, so maybe that’s it.

“There’s no one else that I would’ve wanted for Scarlett than you.”

“Thanks, man.”

“So you think you’ll be my brother soon?”

“Going for the heavy questions now, are we?”

“Just want to know what your intentions are with my sister. That’s all.”

“There we go.” I roll my eyes. “I was waiting for something along those lines.” I take a sip of my beer, and then I admit, “I’m going to ask as soon as I’m certain she’ll say yes. It’s still new, but I’m ready.”

“Good.” He pauses, then adds, “Can’t wait for you to be my brother-in-law.”

“Thanks, buddy.”

We clink our beers together and drink for the rest of the evening.

Chapter Fifty-Five

Scarlett

This should feel weird, but it’s not.

Calvin and I invited my brother and Annie up to his apartment for a double date. We ordered takeout from a local restaurant, and now we are playing games and drinking in Calvin’s living room.

Everything is going smoothly. No hiccups with our impromptu dinner party/double date and no complaints about the company.

The day after Calvin and Sebastian talked, Boston was hosting a parade for the Super Bowl champions for the team and their family members.

I was invited by both Sebastian and Calvin, but I was beside Calvin the entire time, tucked by his side. I was nervous for Sebastian’s reaction, but as Calvin tried to reassure me, it was fine. There was absolutely no drama or anything to worry about.

Sebastian would occasionally smile at us cuddled together, but nothing bad happened at all.

Two days later, we are playing charades in Calvin’s living room and drinking margaritas that Annie brought, laughing and having fun together.

It’s very weird, but in a good way. It’s like we’ve been on a thousand double dates together. Maybe we will. I do think Annie and Sebastian are the long game, as they are so good together. I would like to think Calvin and I are too, but I’ve also thought that before and we all know that was a complete nightmare.

I take a sip of my margarita, drinking the last drop, and placing it down on a coaster on Cal’s end table.

“Oh shoot! I’m out of margaritas,” Annie announces from the kitchen.

“You have another pitcher in the fridge downstairs!” Sebastian smartly reminds her.

“That’s right!” She points her finger in the air like a scientist. “I’ll be back,” she says as she stumbles to the door.

I stand up from the couch, empty glass in my hand. “Here. I’ll come with you to help.”

A few minutes later, we are in my brother’s kitchen downstairs, pulling the large pitcher from the fridge.

She fills both our glasses before taking a seat on a stool at his kitchen counter.

“I’m so happy for you and Calvin, by the way.” A smile lights up her face.

“Thank you.” I blush. I don’t think Annie was all too surprised by the news of us dating, but she’s far too polite to say so, at least to me.

“I can’t wait to double date more. This is so exciting.” Her best friend, Goldie, is dating another player on the team, Bryce, so she already has someone to double date with.
