My palms are sweaty, and my heart is beating fast.
Shit. I’ve never been so nervous to talk with my best friend before. Lettie and I discussed our relationship in greater detail, and we mutually decided that I’d talk to Sebastian first.
It’s honestly what I prefer too, but shit, this may be harder than I thought.
I hear heavy footsteps trudging to the door, and it opens with Sebastian standing there in athletic shorts and a Revs T-shirt.
“Can I come in?” I ask Sebastian.
“Uh, yeah.” He rubs his head. “You don’t even have to ask.”
I walk into his place, the same way I’ve done hundreds of times, except this time my heart is beating out of my chest.
“Want a beer or anything?”
“Nah, I’m okay.”
Sebastian raises his brows at me. “Are you sure?”
“I’ll do whatever.” I don’t really care either way.
He saunters over to the kitchen, pops open the fridge, and grabs two beers.
He hands me the drink before sitting across from me in the living room in an oversized chair.
“Everything okay?” he says, concern lacing his tone.
I stretch out my fingers, sweat dripping off them.
“Yeah.” I clear my throat. “I just wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Okay, sure.” There’s a lightness to his words like he has no idea about the bomb coming his way.
“Okay. I’m just going to say it.” I pause, waiting for a beat, but he lets me get on with it. “I’m dating your sister.”
“Which one?”
I huff out a laugh before answering, “Scarlett.”
“Yeah?” He raises one brow.
“I will never hurt her. I promise. I, uh, I’m actually in love with her. Have been for a really long time,” I ramble.
I shut my eyes and flinch in anticipation of a punch. A slap. Anything.
But it doesn’t come.
I open my eyes to stare at his, but there’s no trace of anger in his hazel eyes, the exact color as his sister’s.
“Are you going to punch me?”
“Why would I punch you?”
“Because I’m dating your sister?” I let the words slide off my tongue as a question, but he never answers. “So you’re not mad?”
“Why would I be mad?” He shrugs. “You two are the best people I know. I am happy for you.”
“Really?” I’m blown away right now. I honestly pictured this moment going a lot differently, but maybe I should have trusted my friendship with Sebastian and given him more credit.
