“Perfect.” She giggles.
Harrison ignores us and tosses his suitcase on the bed. “Okay, where’s the pizza? I’m starving.”
We head back down to the kitchen and dig into the pizza I had delivered just before they arrived. I even managed to find bottles of the same old-fashioned root beer we used to drink as kids.
Harrison swallows a bite and takes a swig of his root beer. “You know, this feels surprisingly normal. Even though you two can’t stop staring at each other.”
“You’re right. It’s been too long since the three of us hung out.” I smile at Melanie. “And now I don’t have to hide my feelings for your sister.”
Melanie blushes again while we grin at each other.
Harrison quirks an eyebrow. “You could hide it a little bit, you know.”
I shake my head. “Not a chance.”
After finishing our dinner, we head back upstairs where the T.V. is. I grab the remote and pull Netflix up. “Alright, what movie are we feeling tonight?”
“How about The Three Musketeers?” Harrison says with a smile.
Melanie nods. “Seems fitting.”
“The Three Musketeers it is!” I push play before sitting down in one of the gaming chairs.
“There are only two chairs, so Mel you take this one. I’ll sit on the floor.” Harrison nudges the chair towards her.
Before she can sit, I grab her wrist and pull her onto my lap. “Nonsense, no need for anyone to sit on the floor.”
“West!” Melanie resists, but her grin tells me she doesn’t mind so much.
She relaxes and rests her head on my shoulder. I lay my head on top of hers and take a deep breath to smell her hair.
Harrison wrinkles his nose. “You two really aren’t easing me into this slowly, are you?” He takes a seat. “I guess I need to get a girlfriend so I’m not a third wheel.”
I shake my head at how dramatic he is then we all quiet down as the movie starts.
Once Harrison is immersed in the movie, I brush my lips against a sweet little spot right behind Melanie’s ear. “So, you liked the Zamboni photos, huh?” I whisper.
I feel her head move up and down in a nod. “That photo shoot lives rent-free in my head.”
Smiling against her neck, I reply, “You know, I could give you a live remake of that photo shoot.”
She giggles. “Only if I’m the one who gets to oil you up.”
“It’s a deal. Bring your essential oils. Lavender is my favorite.”
A loud exaggerated sigh comes from Harrison. “You guys realize I can hear you, right?”
Pulling my head back so I can look at Mel, she meets my gaze and we both grimace. “Sorry, Harrison,” we say in unison.
Melanie snuggles back into my chest and I place a kiss on the top of her head. She releases a contented sigh, and I wrap my arms around her waist like I’m never letting go.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
MELANIE
The week after Harrison’s visit was busy, West had to travel to Canada for three away games, and I’ve been busy running the office while Madden is out of town.
It’s Saturday morning and I tried my hardest to sleep in and recuperate from a hectic week. But when West got in late last night, he called to tell me he has a special date planned for us today.
