“You really don't believe me?”
“Nope. I don't believe shit a nigga say.”
“Damn, what nigga hurt you?” I chuckled.
“Why a nigga gotta hurt me?”
“Shit, the way you talking, you don't trust niggas.”
“Who said I don't trust niggas?” She looked at me as the cashier called her order. She went over to grab her food before heading toward the door.
“You did.”
“No, I didn't. I said I don't believe you when you say you ain't a player. That's two different things.”
“But I ain't did nothing to you, ma, for you not to believe me.”
“You don't have to. Like I said, I can look at you and tell.”
I laughed as I followed her outside. “Ma, ain't nobody ever told you not to judge a book by its cover?”
“Yeah, and they also said don't be no damn fool, either.”
“Damn, you got something for everything I say, huh?”
“Pretty much.” She grinned as she reached into her purse for her keys.
I shook my head, laughing. Shorty had a smart-ass mouth on her, just like her damn sister. I could see why Cas went through it with Kaylen, because these Barrett sisters didn't mind talking their shit. But I liked that about her. She wasn't trying to impress me or tell me what she thought I wanted to hear. If she had something to say, she was going to say it.
“Aight, ma. Since you got me all figured out, how about you give me your number and let me prove you wrong?”
“No, I'm sorry. I don't give my number out.” She shook her head.
“And why not?”
“Because I don't.”
“Okay, but how you expect to get to know a nigga if you won't even give him a chance?”
“Who said I was trying to get to know you?”
I chuckled. “Damn, you ain't gotta do me like that.”
She laughed as she pressed the button on her key fob, unlocking her car.
“Besides, my girlfriend wouldn't like that.” She smirked before opening her door and getting inside.
I stood there for a second, looking at her because I damn sure wasn't expecting that answer.
“Your girlfriend?”
She just smiled before closing her door.
Well, damn.
I shook my head and walked over to my truck. Out of all the shit I thought she might've said, having a girlfriend wasn't one of them. I couldn't even be mad because shorty had been telling me from the jump that she wasn't giving me her number.
After climbing inside, I set my food on the passenger seat, started the engine, and backed out of the parking space. I pulled out of the lot and headed home, still thinking about that last little comment she made.
