The fact that Adrian DeLoughrey was more likely to smile from the bottom of his heart than the Copelands and Nicolaj would ever make peace was sobering.
“Miles,” Camille began again. “One thing.”
I looked at her alertly, grateful my body had at least relaxed a little, even though the thought of Emely showing up here any minute didn't exactly help calm the chaos in my stomach.
“Remember, the internship and the Copeland girl have to stay between us.” Camille seemed tense. “Neither Adrian, Bastien, nor Nicolaj can find out about this.”
I wanted to use my powers to sense her emotions, to find out if Camille was really nervous, but I didn't. She would notice immediately. Besides, the sun was shining and I didn't feel like getting a migraine, because I had left my moonstone necklace on the bathroom cabinet next to the shower in my apartment.
“Any other requests?” I asked, smiling and batting my eyes.
Camille looked at me, unimpressed.
“Get out,” she finally demanded. “And tuck your shirt into your pants.”
We both got out, and I unbuttoned another button on my shirt.
“I’m not Laurent,” I laughed.
She pulled her black briefcase out of the trunk of the two-seater and locked the car, shaking her head. “Whatever that is supposed to mean, young man.”
I liked to tease her that she and Laurent obviously had a certain chemistry, but she didn’t like to hear that.
In the distance, I saw an olive-green Jeep approaching.
“I’ll be right there,” I said.
Camille just nodded and then entered the law firm in her elegant black business suit.
I also entered the law firm, but waited in the foyer, where Vivienna Westcode passed me, her expression, as always, distrustful, because although the Quatura coexisted with us, they did not trust us.
I knew that she and Emely more or less hated each other. I would have loved to have witnessed the drama in high school, but I had been home-schooled, just like Adrian.
Vivienna disappeared into the courtroom with her head held high, but my attention was focused on the door through which she had just entered the building.

Emely strode confidently through the entrance area, her hair falling in smooth, neat strands over her shoulders, not in a ponytail as usual, and as always, my gaze was immediately fixed on her.
She was wearing a business suit, black like Camille's, but with a white blouse underneath. Everything she wore fit her like a glove.
I inwardly cursed myself, having no choice but to scan every inch of her athletic yet feminine body.
I straightened my shoulders and tried to suppress the nervousness that intensified with each step she took toward me, losing myself further, this time in her lips. Full lips...
Were they as soft as they looked?
Emely spotted me.
My nervousness peaked as my heart took a strangely intense leap.
I greeted her with a smile.
“Good morning, little wolf.”
I enjoyed how her heart skipped a beat, how she hesitated for a second, but then walked past me.
