“Did he bore you with family history?” someone laughed from the doorway. Nash.

Emely shook her head as she walked past him and sank exhausted onto the couch.

“He told me about Jeremiah.”

I looked at the man shaking the chief's hand, waited until my eyes had adjusted, then turned to the siblings. “And Tayen.”

“His favorite story about the Copelands,” Nash snorted. He seemed to be in a good mood, but still looked a little exhausted as he turned his head to Emely. “Can you imagine that, Ems? A wedding out of love.”

I clenched my teeth.

Emely looked at her brother, visibly annoyed. “What's that supposed to mean, Nash?”

He shrugged.

“I'm just saying... Neither of them was forced.”

I had noticed that Nash didn't really like Mikhail, even if it was just from the looks he gave him. I also knew that this wedding was definitely not happening out of love.

“Why is your father doing something so heartless?” I blurted out, and both siblings looked at me in surprise. Emely even seemed as though I had thrown a stone at her.

Damn. I probably shouldn't have brought up the subject.

I almost apologized, but Nash was quicker.

“To have support against the Ruisangors in case of an emergency,” Nash laughed bitterly. “Politics makes people throw their principles out the window.”

Emely stared at her brother with an indecipherable expression.

The Alpha's son seemed so different here, outside of campus. Much more mature, much more... sincere. And yet he seemed to have a more controversial opinion than I had expected. What did he really think about the Ruisangors and the Quatura?

“I wonder why exactly the Ruisangors are so afraid of you,” I voiced the thought that had been haunting me for months. Alarik had lured it to the surface with the story, but I wanted to hear it from the twins.

“They are immortal,” Nash murmured. “But one bite from one of us is enough…” Seriousness crept into his voice. “…and their eternity is history.”

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Emely still staring at Nash, but this time as if he had just sentenced someone to death.

If what he said was true, it would explain the hatred between Ruisangors and Senseque. However, it did not justify it.

Camille stepped on the gas even though the traffic light a hundred meters ahead had already turned orange. I had learned that from her.

But unlike me, I had never seen her run a red light, though she often ran orange lights rather than green ones. And so, she shot across the intersection.

Smoothly, she let one hand wander over the gearshift while turning the steering wheel with the other. First to the right, then back, letting go of the steering wheel for a moment, her eyes focused on the road, ignoring the staring drivers and pedestrians.

Not even the tires of her black Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 squealed. But the sound the engine made when she stepped on the gas again after turning was music to my ears.

I smiled and leaned back with satisfaction.

She was the best driver in the clan. Wherever she had learned to drive, she didn't reveal it. And she didn't let me drive her cars either.
