My head turned toward Adrian, but he wasn’t looking at me. He was looking down the stairs, and he seemed tense.

The faint scent in the air was indeed different from that of the Legacy Ruisangors. I recognized it from Laurent.

“I didn’t expect so many,” Miles said with raised eyebrows, and David also seemed less calm than usual.

Adrian was the only one who seemed to have expected this, and I immediately remembered the conversation I had overheard two months ago.

“Never underestimate Nikolaj,” Adrian replied tonelessly.

There it was again. That dark coldness. Always there when Nikolaj was around.

The cries of ravens pierced the silence somewhere in the distance of Fogs Forest, but that wasn't what sent a chill down my spine.

“How could I?” Miles replied almost theatrically, rolling his eyes.

My attention was drawn away from the small conversation, wandering to the Ruisangors in front of us. Or rather, to her.

My breath caught in my throat.

Boss Bitch

Doja Cat

No. This had to be a bad joke...

How was this possible?

“Oh my...” I began after blinking three times and realizing that it was really her. “I think I'm having a nightmare.”

The nightmare stared back at me just as I stared at her. Red curls and the perfect model face...

What was she doing here?

I blinked. Again. Again. And again.

“Never seen so many Ruisangors in one place?” David asked with slight amusement in his voice, but I could only shake my head absently.

“No... I see someone whose neck I'd like to snap and then hang her in front of the estate.”

That wasn't even close to the truth. It felt like the devil himself had appeared right in front of me, ready to catch up with me in the form of my past.

I blinked again, but she didn't disappear.

“Now you've got me curious,” Miles remarked, looking into the crowd and following my gaze.

As if struck by lightning, he suddenly sprang into action and hurried down the stairs.

And she also started moving, her gaze no longer on me, but on...

“Miles! What a lovely surprise!” I heard her exclaim with a fucking smile, and the sound of her voice tore at old scars.

I watched her perfect hips move in her black suit pants, while the upper part of her body was wrapped in a dark red velvet wrap blouse with long sleeves that matched her hair.

My jaw dropped when she and Miles fell into each other's arms as if they had known each other for ages and were the biggest besties of all time.

This had to be a dream. Without a doubt.

It took me a while to allow myself to accept that this wasn't a dream.
