Back then, I had thrown Olivia up, but I was too untrained and too distracted to do that.

I had to change the choreography.

“Miles, what are you doing?” Olivia whispered, confused.

“I want to try something new.”

“We should discuss things like that beforehand,” she hissed, even more upset.

“Oh well, Miss Killjoy.”

I took a deep breath and pulled her into my arms to turn us around.

“Then let me just change the climax a little…”

“But…”

“Trust me.”

I lowered my body, grabbed her by her waist and lifted her up with both arms above my head, where she lay on her back and let her head fall back.

“Lift her higher!” the dance teacher shouted enthusiastically, and I stretched my entire body so that Olivia floated above me in my hands, arching her back.

I looked down at the bleachers.

Everyone, absolutely everyone, was watching us dance.

But I only had eyes for her.

Emely was frozen, and it seemed as if she had stopped breathing.

I had her where I wanted her.

Finally, I let Olivia fall and caught her as I knelt down, noticing the passionate look in her eyes that only dancing could elicit. That look I had once mistaken for something else.

I pulled her up with me, placed her on her feet, and we danced the last steps of our choreography, not without noticing that Olivia was glaring at me strangely.

I pulled her toward me one last time and held her close. Then the song ended.

Applause rang out behind me. “That was amazing!”

Olivia's nails had dug into my bare forearms, and I was forced to look at her. Anger burned in her eyes.

Overwhelmed, I pulled away from her grip and ran my fingers through my hair.

“You're a natural, Mr. DeLoughrey!”

Behind the astonished dance teacher, I saw the basketball coach shooing up the women's team, who were still staring, and the cheerleading coach whistling, clearly unimpressed by her team's inattention.

Emely's expression was priceless, but the next moment I felt miserable for having gone so far. I must have been quite convincing, because her eyes glowed with the same jealousy I felt every day when I saw her with that bastard.

“What the hell was that?!”

Olivias eyes began to glow.
