But just the mere thought of his eyes scanning my body made me grit my teeth.
“How on earth did you get full marks?” squeaked the girl next to him quietly.
Something inside me cracked. Before it broke. My pride.
I didn't know if it was because Miles was better than me or because he knew I had scored lower than him, but I turned around.
“Are you manipulating the professor?”
The question escaped my lips unchecked.
Miles looked up from his work in surprise, and I knew I had caught him off guard.
“Excuse me, but who are you?” the redhead asked snappishly, her expression full of confusion.
I recognized the exact moment she stopped holding her breath and inhaled sharply. And something inside me hoped she was afraid.
Ignoring the dark red glow in her irises, I turned to face her and darkened my gaze so that my warning would get through to her.
“I can be your worst nightmare if you push me.”
She narrowed her pretty brows and looked irritated at Miles, who had regained his composure.
He sighed. “May I introduce you to Emely Copeland, daughter of the Alpha, niece of the rector, and determined to make my life difficult.”
Excuse me? We would never have met if he hadn’t repeatedly crossed my path.
The girl looked at me again, her expression completely changed. Her suspicion was greater than anything else. And there was something else. Hatred.
“You beast dare to speak to us?” The reddish flicker in her irises intensified. “Do you know who we are?”
Hostility burned in her voice.
“There were times when it would have bothered me, but now I don’t give a damn.”
I said it more to Miles, who was watching me with a frozen expression.
God, how I hated how I always flew into a rage while he just sat there looking at me as if I were a canvas and he were ready to cut me up with his verbal box cutter at any moment.
“Don't talk to us again!” hissed the girl.
I couldn't help but laugh scornfully.
“I wasn't talking to you, but to your manipulative gentleman.”
Again, I looked at Miles, whose expression was completely unreadable. Maybe because we weren't alone.
Good. For once, I wasn't helplessly at his mercy, and my anger overwhelmed the other feelings I wished I could destroy as quickly as possible.
I wanted to turn away, but the girl wasn't done yet.
“The whole clan knows that the pack is inferior. You should leave this town before we mercilessly exterminate you.”
She didn't blink. Everything about her hateful gaze told me that she meant every word she said, and I knew immediately that she was one of those Ruisangors my father had warned us about.
“Olivia...” Miles murmured in a serious voice, but she didn’t take her eyes off me.
He wanted to say something else, but I didn’t let it get that far.
