I wished I had left a second earlier, because the next moment my father appeared in the hallway and hurried toward me with a bitter expression.
“Are you out of your mind?!” He gritted his teeth and stopped in front of me. “Isn't it enough that you spend your time on this ridiculous motorsport and rack up endless speeding tickets?”
“What do you care?” I muttered darkly, narrowing my eyes.
Since I'd been earning good money, those tickets were a drop in the bucket.
He'd never been interested in my hobbies. And I'd never asked him to be.
“I don't want any trouble with the Russian Alpha!”
My father's dark brown hair, with its gray roots, was the same brown as his eyes.
“You won't get any,” I replied.
The impatience and anger in my chest continued to rise until my fists clenched again.
My father's forehead was already red.
It pissed me off that he thought he could dictate me shit. It was as if my fists were just waiting for him to say the wrong word.
“Assure me that you won't participate in the games.”
He really didn't know me...
“Like hell I will!” I laughed, shaking my head, and stepped back to save myself and him from an outburst that would certainly not end well for him. He knew that I wasn't myself when I transformed. And he knew what I was capable of...
“Kieran!” he growled angrily, but lowered his voice the next moment, as if I were a child he had to be patient with. “Nickolas asked me to.”
My jaw began to work.
It was one thing not to give a damn about my father's opinion. But I was under the Alpha bond, which bound me to Nickolas Copeland's commands.
God, Emely... You're really getting me into trouble.
Still, unless some miracle happened, I would participate in the games, even if it meant upsetting two Alphas at once.
In an emergency, I could flee, leave town with Azara, and go into hiding. I had made preparations for such a case. But if I won the games...
“Can you please not cause any trouble?” hissed the man in front of me.
I stepped closer and flashed my eyes.
“If you hadn't killed her, I wouldn't be a problem for you now.”
My own words sent a burning shiver down my spine. I didn't want to think back to that time, wanted to forget, but repression was a nasty disease I didn't want to fall victim to.
Impatience blazed in my father's eyes.
“I didn't kill her, and you know that very well,” he gritted out. “It was luck that I came at just the right time and...”
“Dirty liar!” I snapped at him, not caring who could hear me in this house.
My father's head snapped around as if he feared the Alpha might jump out from the corner and tear his head off.
“Kieran!” he finally hissed, pointing outside. “If that woman hadn't run away with you, nothing would have happened! She probably would have survived and would still be living in town.” I just laughed and stepped back. “Stop blaming me for the same thing every time! It's ridiculous!”
His words sparked more and more anger in me until I couldn't hold it back any longer. Without hesitation, I grabbed the vase on the nearest dresser and hurled it at Rohan's feet with a deafening crash.
